Master Trooper David Rich,

Thank you for being a warrior! We need more of you in our world so people don't get by with the terror that's happened to your and your family. My heart and prayers go out to your family. Again...thanks for being a warrior. I'm not a police officer, I'm not even a warrior, I'm only a civilian that cares about the safety and well being of my family , I am always thankful for the service of our ISP, and our city PD, although this perplexes my mind b/c things like this should not happen....God Bless You All!!!

My deepest sympathy to your family, department, co-workers and friends. To respond to the easiest of things and to be taken so quickly is rough. I respond to stranded vehicles everyday. Know not only do we have to worry about traffic stops, but know stranded motorists. It only hurts the good people. I am so sorry for your lose. Our department just lost one of our own on May 16, 2007. He was also an 18 yr veteran. God Bless to you, your family and your department.
I have not met you Master Trooper D. Rich, but please be our eyes in the ski, watch all of our sixes and keep the heavenly streets safe with Dep. Frank Fabiano #147. You guys are partners now and you will always be a partner of mine. I hope to patrol the streets of heaven side by side with you someday. God bless brother and be safe. We will miss you.

Dave, I met you on July 17th, 1989 as we became fellow classmates and squad members in the 47th recruit class for the Indiana State Police. We made it through the academy and graduated to be sent to different parts of the state. I sit and reflect on the time we spent with our classmates as we were formed into "Indiana's Finest" and then to graduation day and our first assignment as a new trooper. I have met your brother Bob on several times and we often spoke about you and your love for the outdoors. I was deeply saddened when I was contacted by another trooper and informed of your tragic death. My deepest sympathy goes to your widow, children and family. You will be missed but not forgotten. Rest in Peace Brother.

The only thing harder than wearing a badge is loving someone who does.
To the Rich family, May God Bless and Comfort you in the coming days and ease your pain like only He can. I know that this is the most trying time in your life, but please remember that so many are praying for you.
Take comfort in the fact that he is smiling down on all of those wearing a badge and that he will be walking the streets with them as they continue the watch.

I never dreamed it would be me,
my name for all eternity,
recorded here at this hallowed place,
alas, my name, no more my face.

"In the line of duty" I hear them say;
my family now the price will pay,
my folded flag stained with tears;
we only had those few short years.

The badge no longer on my chest,
I sleep now in eternal rest;
my sword I pass to those behind,
and pray they keep this thought in mind;

I never dreamed it would be me,
and with heavy heart and bended knee;
I ask for all here from the past,
Dear God, let my name be the last.
