I met Paul in 1996 in Oakland, and found him to be a good man and a good cop. He left for South Lake Tahoe PD and was shot in a foiled bank robbery. Rather than retire, he fought his way back to permanent duty. He went to Texas to get away from big city police work. We lost a good man.

To Deputy Sheriff's Habelt's family, friens and co-workers,
This is a most tragic lost as it is so senseless!! If we could get these illegal guns off the streets many of our LEO deaths would be preventable!! May your family and colleagues know that we,COPS are there for all of you who have suffered a great loss....come to DC, see your co-worker honored, take part in the seminars for officers, and begin to heal from the hurt and loss of a great officer and friend, and loved one!!

I just read about the losses of the two officers. I just came back from National Police Week in Washington, D.C. My brother was shot and killed on March 22, 2006 in Albuquerque, NM. I couldn't help wonder, while I was looking into the other officers' faces, as to whom would be next. It deeply saddened me just having that thought. I am praying for the officers and their families.
