Jason,

There is a gap in the national long thin line of officers, but there is an unbelievable hole in our ranks here at the Campbell County Sheriff's Office. One that will not be easily filled. Our faith in God, as well as in each other, will allow us to take the watch and continue to serve. Rest in peace my brother, and know that you have made each of us proud, and you will never, ever be forgotten.

Jason

Today is April 7, 2007 and we are preparing to carry you to your final resting place in this life. I look forward to seeing you again soon in that Holy City that God has prepared for us. As we grieve here, I know your faith in Christ has carried you across that cold river and into an everlasting life. My brother, I will meet you by the river of life one day.

To the family and loved ones of Deputy Sheriff Jason Lee Saunders and his fellow officers with the Campbell County Sheriff's Office:

On behalf of our family, I want to extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Deputy Saunders was tragically killed in the line of duty. His valor and dedication will never be forgotten.

In reading the loving reflections, it is obvious that Jason was an amazing young man who touched many lives in a positive way. I can see that he is so loved and will be missed by so many.

The circumstances of his death were heart breaking and I know caused much anquish for all those affected. To his parents, I share your agony in losing a cherished child and know that the lives of everyone who called Jason beloved have been forever changed. To all his family, I pray that you find comfort in your faith, each other and friends as you struggle with this devastating loss. May you be embraced by your law enforcement family and other police survivors who share this journey with you.

May Jason's spirit continue to soar and his memory continue to inspire. May God hold Jason and his family in the warmest part of his heart and the most gentle part of his soul. Heaven has another hero today.

Our family lost our cherished Larry when he was ambushed and fatally shot during a foot pursuit of two robbery suspects on April 23, 2005. We were supported and comforted by the brotherhood and sisterhood of law enforcement, and that wonderful community will be there for you. Nothing takes away the pain of your loss, but the comfort of the law enforcement community will help you endure what will seem at times unendurable.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the distinquished service Jason gave to his community and the citizens of Virginia, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on April 3, 2007.

Well bro I don't know what to say cause I am still in such shock. You were one my best friends. I knew whenever I had a problem whether it be personal or mechanical you were always one of the first people I could call. It is going to be so hard without you here. I am having such a rough time dealing with all this. We had plans to build my little boy a mustang from the ground up. We were going to make sure he had the baddest around. We had such fun times at the beach. I remember your first trip to Myrtle and we went to Johnny Rockets and you got two hotdogs and they cost you 14.00 dollars and you were so pissed. You said I coulda got these for two dollars at chef's. Your buddy V-Lo is really taking this bad man. He just wants you to come in and get a sausage biscuit with grape jelly. You know he would fix it for you. You were such a hard worker. Anything you wanted you always worked hard to get. (Just like the good ol 5.0) Anyways bro I am going to get off here. Just wanted to tell you how much I am going to miss having you around. I will talk to ya later bro.. LOVE YA .... Shaun

I knew Jason for the past 6 years, first as a dispatcher with Campbell 911, and then the past 3 years as a deputy with the Campbell County Sheriff's Office. We worked in different divisions and we went on a few calls & traffic stops together. I recall Jason genuinely wanted to help people & he had such a positive outlook on life. Jason was an outstanding young man and will be missed. Our prayers go out to coworkers, friends, and family in light of this terrible tragedy. We will never forget Jason, and may he rest in peace.

I entered the world of Public Safety Dispatcher only a few years ago, and already we have lost so many so close to home. With the passing of each Officer/Deputy/Trooper,I realize that, while time does help, the wounds truly never heal completely. I hope your family can find comfort in knowing that so many people are thinking about you now and forever.

You taught me so much about care and trucks. You showed me how to have a deeper love and respect for everything in life. Peggy and Dale I don't know how much to thank you for raising such a fine man. It was because of you we had such a great protecter to watch out for us. Now he is with God and is burning the roads up writing them tickets keeping our way to heaven safe to join him.
