Yet again we are faced with the anguish that comes every time a brother officer is killed. I am sorry I wasn't there to help. Mrs. Clearman, I am so very sorry for the loss of your husband. While I didn't know him, his reputation is superb! What a great American to serve his country and his state and give the ultimate gift of his life. I pray now that you will find the peace only God can comfort you with. Ask God for it and He will supply it according to your needs. Rest in peace Brent.

So sorry to hear that you too were killed by a passing motorist while on a traffic stop. My first husband was killed almost 5 years ago in a similar manner. He was on a traffic stop on I-40 when he was struck by a tractor trailer and he and one of the drivers he has stopped were both killed. My heart breaks for your family and I pray the Lord will wrap his loving arms around them as that is the only way I've made it through the last 5 years. Thanks for your sacrifice in your previous position as well as with the CHP. Rest well brave trooper!

My heart goes out to the Clearman family as well as Brent's extended family within the California Highway Patrol. Brent was an amazing person and officer. On many occasions our paths would cross and I would get to chat with him sharing stories of "life on the beat".

I last spoke with Brent a week and a half ago before I left for vacation. He was sitting in his patrol car over by Pt Isabel (overlooking the SF bay) eating a sandwich taking a much deserved break. I rolled up alongside and parked next to him and heard the familiar "Hey, how are ya?" We started chatting and he told me me how I was "very brave to do my job working in the most violent city in CA." I chuckled and told him that he makes enough arrests in our city he should come work for us! He told me "Thanks but no thanks... I look best in tan!!!" Our chat unfortunately ended...I had to go, the city needed me. I told him I'd see him again soon. I drove off looking back in the mirror to him waving goodbye.

Sadly, I'll never get the chance to chat with him agian. Now more than ever I just wish I could tell him how much of an impact knowing him has had on me... thank him for stopping to check in on me when I was on a traffic stop (even when I was code 4), coming over and asking if I needed help for anything (tows, measurements, VC quesitons), helping me with DUI investigations, and most of all, sharing stories over Code 7 at Dennys. He was a great officer and most of all a great person whom I proudly call my friend.

Brent, please continue to look over me and make sure I will be ok, I dont feel so brave anymore.

My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. We have lost another special member of the CHP family.
Irish Blessings:
"May the road rise to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face.
And rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the hollow of His hand".

To the wife of Officer Clearman,

My heart goes out to you. I am truly sorry for your loss. I also lost my husband in the line of duty and I know the pain that you are feeling. Nothing anyone can say will ease your pain but please know that there are people that care.

Your husband will always be a hero, not only because he served his community as a CHP Officer but because he served his country as a United States Marine.
