Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Police Officer Scott Alan Wertz

HEY WERTZI....
haven't written you in awhile but i check in on here almost every day to look at your pic. always makes me feel proud to have known you ya know?
a couple weeks ago i had to walk cletus up to court being that he is going in front of the judge i am permanently assigned too. i guess you know how hard it is to be right next to this guy knowing what he did to you. i look at him and sometimes i just don't know how to handle it when i have to walk this guy up there and have these things run through my mind. all i think about is how just a couple hrs before he did that to you i was talking to you and you were saying that i had to get by you first in the academy before i could be a cop in Lancaster....lol.
man...i really miss seein ya brother. always looked up to you man. myself and Big Dave sit back and talk about you all the time...lol.
well, i'll talk to you soon buddy. i think about you every single day when i'm on my way to work.

talk to ya later

Hey Scotty,
Happy Easter! Wanted to say hello, It's been awhile. The back is coming around slow and steady. I picked up my bike on Thursday from the shop and got a trainer so I can start conditioning for the Unity Tour. Doc doesn't want me out on the street will probably give me the go ahead Monday to start training. Talked to Chuck the other day. He's been bugging me to come down and kick back for a few. I'm gonna try to get down there before I deploy. We'll have a few for ya!!! Well talk to you soon....

Happy Easter #2 son

Been a while since I was here. Sorry for that. One would think it would become easier as time goes by, but it doesn't. We just pretend that it does. We learn how to become good actors. Last weekend it took everything I had not to show my feelings. I was at your place and Jared and I were watching the basketball game between NC and Clemson before he had to go to his basketball tournament when all of a sudden NC scored and Jared jumped up out of his chair, started yelling and holding up his hands and walking around the room and that is when I almost lost it because it remended me so much of you, as you always got so excited about your teams. As the old saying goes, "that apple didn't fall far from that tree". He is so you, Scott. You can be so proud of him as we are. We still miss and love you as we always will.

Hey Scotty,

I know it's been awhile, always thinking of you. So much has happen wish you were still here. Travis is getting so big can't believe he's 7 months already. He's so much fun. Can't wait until he's walking and chasing me around the house. Well, made it to another Bon Jovi concert with Trish last week this time we were both sober..lol we were talking about when we all went to jersey to see him 2 yrs ago and you took that cooler from the parking lot on the way out and how we lost you in the hotel, boy did we have fun that night! Well wanted to stop by and say hello, until next time.

Wertzy,

Just waiting patiently for the weather to warm up so I can go for my first ride on the fatboy. Matt has already been out. I still remember the day you were taken from us, we were suppose to ride that day. I really wish we would have had the chance. Another softball season is upon us, and again it doesnt feel the same. Miss you and yes, the loud phone calls especially!

Good Morning #2 son

It was quite difficult yesterday but it was so good to hear from you and know that you are doing great. You are welcome. You know I will always be here for Trish and the boys. Thank you so much for watching out for Dusty and taking care of him. I know he is in real good hands knowing that you are there. I hope that when next week is here it is going to be what we are looking for and no changes or extensions.

Our lives go on without you, but nothing is the same
We have to hide our heartaches when someone speaks your name
Sad are the hearts that love you, silent the tears that fall
Living our lives without you is the hardest part of all
You did so many things for us,your heart was kind and true
And when we needed someone,we could always count on you
Those special years will not return, when we were all together
But with the love within our hearts, you will walk with us forever.

We love and miss you.

Hey Scott,

I know it's been awhile that I've stopped by to say I'm thinking of you. I actually do think of you lots, but there are times I need to come here just to say so. Your brothers played their hearts out during the battle of the badges over the weekend...I'm impressed how much better they are today than they were three years ago! I know CR will be down next week, I hope the AG's office will be ready to go soon so you and your family get their day in court.

Keep smiling down on us all.

Hello #2 Son

Yesterday was a difficult day. We buried my uncle and his funeral just brought back such horrible memories of your funeral. Looking at him lie there, it seemed all I could see was you and reliving it all over again. I know we will never get over it. Every funeral we go to will always bring back that horrible memory.

I hope to hear from you. I can't wait.

Our hearts ache for you throughout the year
Knowing that you'll never be here
The time you spent with us on earth
Has given us a sense of worth
We miss you dearly with all our hearts
Knowing physically we are apart
We miss your humor, we miss you smile
We'll miss you always across the miles
There will always be a heartache
And there will always be a tear
All the precious memories of the days when you were here
We hold you close within our hearts where you will always remain
To walk with us throught our lives until we meet again

We will always love and miss you.

Hey Hon. Been thinking about you sooooooo much lately - more than usual! Still can't believe you are gone. It still feels surreal most days!! They have finally picked people to try the trial. Now I'm waiting to see how long they are going to postpone it - again!! They are saying maybe summer??? By the time it is all said and done, I wouldn't doubt if it is at the end of summer - 2 years after you were killed!! So much for swift and quick justice!!!

FINALLY got your tombstone put in place! What a long and difficult process that was! In the end, it isn't exactly the size I wanted (only the biggest for you), but I feel it is the best! Which is of course, what you deserve!! I hope you like it!

Well, Josh got his first stitches!!! Another first you were not here for! Another day I wished you were here! I did better than when Jared got his first, even though I didn't have you there to hide behind (ha-ha)! I sat behind him, he leaned on me, and I didn't look!! (You know how much I like needles and blood. Especially when it is my own children's)! While I was there, and when Josh wasn't freaking out, all I could think about was you!! How they might have wheeled you in, how they fought so hard to save you, how you died there in that very hospital, where you died in that hospital, what you went through, did you feel any pain, did you know what was going on, how I wanted to come see you there and they wouldn't let me because they said you were evidence, etc., etc!!! Anyway, Josh was a real trooper! He cried more about having to get the stitches then he did when he got them! However, everytime he cried "mommy" I cried too (thank goodness he sat in front of me and couldn't see me)!! It reminded me of when Jared got his stitches and he cried "daddy"!!! God do I miss hearing that!

I can't wait until next week!!! It is finally here! I can't wait to "hear" from you!! Until then . . .

Love you and miss you more and more every day!!! You are forever in my heart!!

Love forever,

Trish

Well Scott, the Cowboys made it to the Super Bowl.
They sat in level 300, section 121...LOL. I must say the speech Owens gave about his Quarterback Romo was just to much, a real " tear jerker ".. Maybe next year Scott......

I was over at your house and put up your icicle
lights this past holiday season. It was something I wanted
and had to do. That was something you always did for the
holidays. The lights had to go up for you and your family.
If someone told me that I would be hanging up your icicle
lights someday, I would of told them to go see a
Psychologist. But Christmas of 2007 I found myself hanging
your lights up. It just shows how fast life can change.

The last time I was that high on a ladder, was
the night we played " Batman and Robin " off of my 2nd
floor deck using my wash line/cable. You were right Scott,
that cable wouldn't hold both of us as we came crashing to
the ground. Luckily the neighbors " solid oak " picnic
table BROKE our fall..... The night you were attacked by
your own vacuum cleaner was another great night. I only
tell that story at social events.

I'll tell the stories for now Scott, but when
we meet again I want you to tell the stories. If anyone
could tell a story,it was you. The facial expressions, the
body language, just priceless... The time when you chased
the inmate through the hospital. I must have told that
story a hundred times. But every time I heard you tell the
story, it was like I was hearing it for the first time...

good bye for now,

Hi Scott -

I know I must be crazy, but we got another puppy!! Fergie needs someone to play with, a little sister. She is WAY too cute, 8 weeks (I must like a little insanity in my life), chocolate brown with a white belly and white paws. We got her at the same place that Trish got Snowball, so Im sure she will be a good puppy (ha ha). Now she just needs a name and I cant decide on one!!

I had the day off last friday (it was my birthday and I didnt think I should have to work that day!) so we went to the cemetary to see your much talked about gravestone. Oh my gosh...it is really nice!! Looks just like you - eyebrows and all! and the Cowboys, Yankees and softball glove/ball was a really nice touch....all your favorite things. Its really a shame you arent here to enjoy all your favorite things...we are all hoping for justice to prevail in your favor.

And speaking of Cowboys....what the heck happened! I was bragging all season about how great my team was and then they just choked at the end (boy did I hear about it).

Just wanted to say I was thinking of you....keep looking down on your family and keep them safe.

Miss ya!

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Hi #2 son

Sorry I haven't been here for some time. Some days it is so hard to bring myself here.

The holidays weren't too bad. We pulled one over on Dusty this year.

Jared is taking your place. His is a lot easier to guess since we ask him for his list of things he would like then at Christmas he shakes the box and tries to guess what item from his list is in the box.

Went to see your tombstone the other day. Trish did a real good job picking the stone and the pictures that were placed on the stone. The stone is just beautiful. Of course it was hard to see that, millions of tears were shed, but I hope now you and we all will have some closure.

One of the things I miss most is our phone calls. Boy could I use a call right about now. I guess I will just have to wait until later. I will keep all my thoughts until then.

Death leaves a heartache no one can heal
Our memories are treasures no one can steal
No lenght of time can forget the past
Too many memories hold it fast
Today, tomorrow and our whole life through
We'll always love and remember you
Life goes on, we know it's true
But it's not the same since losing you.

Until later. We will always love you and miss you

Hey there Scott....
Just wanted to say hello.... we have thought and talked alot about you the last few weeks but I just couldn't bring myself to come here and tell you. Emiley has this favorite teacher in school and he's also her hockey coach. But he's the one person that she can talk to about you and at christmas she gave him a gift of a butterfly that said on it "teachers are the wind beneath our wings" well Scott she wrote him a letter explaining how much butterflies mean to her and exactly why. Explaining that they represent a "HERO" in her life and someone that will always be special to her and that person is you. Well I have to tell you when we read it Scott we all cried Jim included. Her teacher was so touched and she explained in her letter that in her eyes he is a hero to her as well, because of all he has done for her.
She said she hoped you would understand... I explained it probably meant alot to you!!!!

Well Scott we miss you and you are with us every day
Keep Trish and the boys strong!! Send them our love

Heyy scott!!
My dad and I went to go see your headstone today.. It looks really nice.. I didn't even know that you could put pictures on it like that. But don't worry, you still look cool! =]

Your name got brought up in one of my classes the other day. It was really sad and I wasn't in the mood to even hear of it. Everyone talks like they understand what actually happened, but they have no idea what they're talking about, its ridiculous. If this cletus guy doesn't get what he deserves, me and the 'justice system' are gonne have some problems...

And I guess you know about your oldest son coming into my job a little while ago. He had a bunch of pretty girls following him around all night. Haha.. Hes so funny, just like you...

Everyone misses you, Scott!!
Byee!

p.s. I gotta retake my drivers exam in a few more weeks, how about throwing me some luck!! :) haha
