Reflections for Police Officer Jeremy Preston "Jay" Chambers

Was thinking about you recently. They just gave us our stats from last year and I wrote 20 more DUI's in 2007 than I had in any other year in my career thus far. So...if my math is right, thats 21 DUI's in 2007. I know in the big picture, it is not a lot compared to what a lot of other cops write, but I felt pretty proud and thought of you as I trudged through the tedious paper work of each one. I guess it paid off. I'm in Detectives now and was appaointed to the Major Case Squad. Thanks for inspiration.

Jeremy,

Happy Easter to you. Always thinking of you and missing you like crazy. Can you believe it snowed today. I have pics of the kids when they were so little out in there summer clothes and you, dad and mom helping them find eggs. I can remember when we were kids and we couldn't wait to get up and get our baskets. We would gorge ourselves with candy all day long. We would keep hiding the eggs over and over again. Since you were so much younger than me, I had to keep pretending to believe in the bunny and Santa. I miss you and love you....

Happy New Year Son,

Another year has passed and the new year is about to begin. It still seems like yesterday we got the call in the middle of the night. It still does not seem fair but we have to live with it and try and get through it. We know you will never be forgotten.

We love you and miss you.

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Jeremy,

Well Christmas is here again. Another one without you. We go on with our daily lives just wishing you were here. The kids will participate in Christmas Eve mass, Logan will sing and Garrett has to speak in front of the whole church. Needless to say he is not real happy about that. You know Hayden she tries to keep a low profile. Love you and miss you as always....

Jeremy,

You're always in our thoughts. Amy and I realize that Christmas symbolizes the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Because of Him, eternal life is available to all of us who profess Jesus as Lord of our life and accept him as our Savior. I know you did those things, and it is exciting to think about how all God's children will be reunited in Heaven. Until then Jeremy, just know you will forever be loved here.

Your loved ones are in my thoughts as Christmas approaches. None of us will ever get use to not having our beloved blue angels with us for holidays. Each day is a real challenge to get through, but holidays are even harder. I know you are in their thoughts every hour of every day and will always be there for as long as they walk this earth. I have decorated the outside of my home in all blue lights and one of those lights is lit every night in your memory to let you know that you have not been forgotten. Keep watch over your loved ones and those still out on patrol. You have not been forgotten.
