Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Officer Henry "Hank" Nava, Jr.

Hank,

From the few times that I met you and did work at your house, I could tell you were a special person. You truley loved your family and your work. My family buried my mother on Thurs. after a 7 month battle with cancer. I couldn't help but notice her body rests about 10 feet away from you at Greewnwood. What an honor! She never got to know you but she did know Teresa and your wonderful kids. I know she is in Heaven with you so and you are celebrating eternal life with her. What a joy!

Hi Sweetie!

Just wanted to say I miss you, miss you, miss you. The kids both had a rough night the other night. They miss you sooooo much too! Still doesn't seem right, still doesn't seem fair but we are doing the best we can.

It will never be or feel right ever no matter how long it has been.

I love hearing all the stories of you at work. They are so funny. It keeps me close to you.

Just always know we all love you with all of our hearts and more!!!!!

LOL,

Teresa

As I was finally reading some of the reflections left for my husband, I came across the reflection left by your wife Teresa and it made me want to view your story. It is so unfortunate that so many spouses lose their mates to such senseless things. The way she talks about you brings me to tears because its exactly how I feel without my husband. The wishing you would still come home, the reality that its never going to happen. You were killed just 3 months apart. Its comforting to know that others feel as I do, and that I'm not so alone in my grief. May you continue to watch over and guide your family.

I was thinking about you on your birthday. The fact that you came into this world in Spring and left it in Winter. Shortly after that I came across a reference to a song that expressed to me many of those things that I know you felt and expressed from time to time. Yeah, I know - you weren’t into Goth music much. But, regardless of that, it spoke clearly to me of you and also of all the others who have made the same sacrifice. I am sure that the celestial Ipod you now have can set the words to any music. :) Cheers. I will see you again soon enough. As will we all.
--------------------------------------
Winterborn (This Sacrifice)

Dry your eyes and quietly bear this pain with pride
For heaven shall remember the silent and the brave
And promise me, they will never see, the fear within our eyes
We will give strength to those who still remain

So bury fear for fate draws near and hide the signs of pain
With noble acts, the bravest souls endure the heart's remains
Discard regret, that in this debt a better world is made
That children of a newer day might remember, and avoid our fate.

And in the fury of this darkest hour we will be your light
You've asked me for my sacrifice and I am Winter born
Without denying, a faith is come that I have never known
I hear the angels call my name and I am Winter born

Hold your head up high-for there is no greater love
Think of the faces of the people you defend
And promise me, they will never see the tears within our eyes
Although we are men with mortal sins, angels never cry...

Well Hank,, the car looks great in the Museum, it has been the center of attention. The comments about the car were all fantastic, it showed what great support the Ft Worth Community has for their Police Department and all who read the inscriptions were moved by that. It is a monument to all who have died in the line of duty in Ft Worth. I was proud to have been there at the ceremony to represent the Ft Worth Police Department on all the Officers behalf. It was of course a sad day as well,,as they read Dwayne Freetos name for Officers killed in 2006. I hope that the car continues to serve as a reminder to all of us, just how well we are regarded by the citizens we protect. Your car is a fitting memorial for all those who've died serving Ft Worth. I'm sure you saw how well Teresa did,, I'm positive your proud of her.

Hank-

Your car is going to the American Police Hall of Fame in Florida. In fact, it is already there. Is that an amazing honor or what. Tom Weiderhold and I are going there for the ceremony. It never ceases to amaze me all the wonderful things that are being done. Today is Mothers Day and it has been very sad for me. I just miss you so very much. I want you back so very much. I just can't imagine still not having you here with the kids and I. Justin Graduated from Kindergarten. We stopped by the cemetary on Friday to talk to you. He loves to talk to you and tell you everything that is going on. I told him I wished you would be there at his graduation. He told me Mom he will be. He can see through the walls he is our angel so they can do that. So he put me in my place that afternoon. That was coming from a 6 year old. Pretty amazing!! I love you my sweetie. Everyday I wish that things would have turned out different that day. It sucks more than I could ever explain to anyone.

Love You!

Officer Nava,

Sir, you have touched many lives in your time on earth. Many of which you'll never truly know. Even after you have left this world, you will continue to effect lives. I did not know you personally but you have done a world of good for a joint friend of ours. In turn, you've effected my world in the same.

I have been told several stories about your time here and how you've left quite an impression on a fellow brother. I do request your help if you can, though I'm sure you already try if you can to help, but please sir look after Ofc C.A.R. I feel he needs help out there. Please don't leave his side. He needs you of all people.

To Officer Nava's family,

I am so sorry and I grieve for your loss. I pray that peace comes over you all. May your children never forget what a hero their father is. If there is anything I can do, please let me know. I live near DC and while my friend was up here, I traced Officer Nava's name off the memorial for him and took pictures of the area. If you would like these pictures or a tracing as well, let me know and I'll do it. God bless you.

Hank-

We visited your grave today. Justin wanted to remind you he turned 6 today. I told him you hadn't forgotten that you were up there watching over us and that you were still so very proud of him for being such a big boy. It is hard to believe that he is 6. 6 years ago we didn't know if he would live or not. But he did! Now to think that we don't have you is so so sad. I love you my sweetie. I love you very much. Everyday I wish and wish this was all a dream and I would wake up and you would still be by my side. You will always be in my heart!

Love you Sweetie!

Ms. Nava,
I just wanted to tell you that your H.A.N.K. foundation is truly a wonderful thing. You are one of the strongest women I have ever met. I truly appreciate what you did for my academy class and all of the future officers in Fort Worth. Thank you so much for making such a positive thing out of this tragedy. You, your children and your Husband are an inspiration to us all!

Theresa and Kaleigh,
I met you both at the police expo. I was the one who told you my dr goes to church with you. I had my picture taken with you two and it is framed now on my entertainment center. Not a day goes by I don't look at that picture and say a prayer for you 3. I still wear my Officer Nava bracelet. It's been on over a year now. I want to help with the H.A.N.K. Organization and walk I'm just not sure how to find who to contact but I'll keep looking. Thank you for sharing Hank with us and know he may be gone but NEVER forgotten/
love and prayers always,
