Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Christopher Brian Matthews

Thinking of you today Brian...remembering BLET, your quiet knowledge, confidence & humor... thinking the deer wreck was a bad omen... remembering the phone call from Durazo and then Casey...remembering having the honor of serving on your honor guard, the long drive & the never ending line of blue lights...

Look out for us when we put on our uniforms and think of you.

Work permitting I will be bringing two of the new breed over tomorrow. Two kids, full of energy and ready to battle the ills of society. They've not met you and for that I am sorry. Your legacy lives on forever.

To the family of Brian Matthews, the CCSO family, and the larger family of LEO brothers and sisters,

I pray for you all. Being a law enforcement officer is hard, so hard that if you don't live the life or love someone in the life you just really, really do not understand. It's a culture; it's a way of life; it's a way of thinking, breathing, and being. Once a cop, always a cop--that badge is engraved on your heart. Thank you, Brian, for serving, and thank you all for serving. Our streets and our towns would not be what they are without you all. May the Lord bless you and keep you, as you serve Him. May He watch over all of you and keep you safe. May He watch over all the ones who love all of you. And may none of us ever forget the meaning of the hero--the one who sacrifices for others. God bless us all.

Angela Marie Lipe Westmoreland
Cousin to Brian Matthews and wife of Deputy Westmoreland, CCSO

Hello my Brian. Hope you received the balloon I sent up to you on your birthday and that you always hear the words I say to you everyday. I love you but when I say this, it just does not seem like strong enough words for the way I feel. I miss you soooo much. Unbearable!! I Love you.

Happy Birthday Brian!

I am thinking about you today. You became a fine young man and a dedicated officer of the law. I would like to pay tribute to your parents who set the example and who supported you every step of the way with love. Please know how much we all miss you and love you.

Don Williams, a country music artist, recorded a song a few years back. The title of his song embodies how we feel every day. The title is, "Some Broken Hearts Will Never Mend." How true!

Have a good day in Heaven.

I miss you more than I can put into words. I want to see you, hug you, talk to you, laugh with you. The yearning is unbearable. My baby. Grief is not something you complete it is not a task you finish and move on.

Brain, it was an honor to serve with you. There was a nice table of honor for you at our 15 year reunion and I reminded others of your sacrifice. Rest in peace brother.

Dear Brian,

Today makes six years since you "slipped the surly bonds of Earth to touch the face of God." These years have been long, lonely, and empty without you. We miss you so much more than mere words can tell.

Brian, we remember your wonderful smile and those beautiful blue eyes. Most of all we remember you for your warm and caring nature. We pay tribute to you today for your devotion to your family, your Jennifer, your friends, and your fellow officers. We love you and will cherish your memory forever.

May God bless you.

Brian, I am getting ready to go and release your birthday balloons. I watch them as they float away until I can't see them anymore. I think of you and how much I love and miss you. As I set there, tears flowing I can see you like most of the times smiling. You are a precious gift to your family and friends. I miss you so.....how I wish I was making you your favorite meal today.

Happy Birthday my Brian.
