We will always remember the polite, young boy from the Flintville, TN community with the bright eyes and big smile. We will forever cherish the pleasant memories that he leaves. I do not have to have known him to feel some of the grief, for he was a young man sworn to ensure that my life would be safer. He was a representative of the sense of order within me; he was representative of the higher laws of civilization within all of us. He was the son, grandson, brother, husband, father, friend, neighbor, and stranger whose uniform and oath made him a friend to call on when in need. Although I did not personally know him I will not miss him in a symbolic way, for his loss is palpable and poignant and personal. I pray for his family, friends, and for the community; I pray for all of us who suffer this loss.

I'm shocked and saddened by this incident. I'm certain anyone who knew him feels the same way. I work in Communications so I can't speak for his field activity as his uniformed comrades can, but I can say that he always had a fantastic personality on the radio, on the phone and in person when he would visit us. I'm really going to miss our conversations about northern Canadian/southern U.S speech differences and my mispronounciations of certain words and streets. He was always willing to stop and talk with us when he visited the Communications center and was very well liked. It seems so surreal that just two weeks ago we spoke and he'd promised to buy me a beer when INS finally cleared me for citizenship, we'll have to have that beer Somewhere Else in the future, friend.

Our Greatest Fear

Yet once again the Thin Blue Line is diminished,
an officer’s final tour of duty is finished.
"Officer down", it’s our greatest fear,
and once again, I hold back a tear.
They patrol in the state, city, county and town,
in uniforms colored white, green, blue and brown.
The shape of their badges may vary,
but it’s a symbol that they all, proudly carry.
They leave for work with a kiss goodbye,
but some don’t come home, no matter how hard they try.
To uphold the law is the job that they pick,
with such high aspirations, why must some die so quick?
They leave behind loved ones, family and friends,
after their lives have met tragic ends.
Some die in crashes, others hearts not too stout,
to many have been lost when gunshots ring out.
Our Heavenly Father has called them home,
no more these dark streets do they roam.
Through trial and error they have given their best,
please Lord, now grant them eternal rest.
Yet once again the Thin Blue Line is diminished,
an officer’s final tour of duty is finished.
"Officer down", it’s our greatest fear,
and once again I hold back a tear.

Officer Golden, thank you for all you have given. God bless you and your family. Rest in peace for you are now 10-41 in a better place!!
