It still does not seem real that you are gone but definitely not forgotten. It seems like yesterday on Springdale/No. Clinton St, when I was directing traffic on a fire detail, and you pulled up in your white Infiniti 05/23/97. Little did I know that you were the immediate relative of one of my recently retired Lieutenants. I'll never forget my co-worker giving you a summons that day and you thought of me as the meanist officer ever. Who would have known that day was the day that started almost ten years of a true friendship, regardless of the way that we met. "D" it brings me to tears knowing that my phone does not ring with you on the other end making sure that I was alright at work on the 1600-2400hr tour. I feel so lost and empty knowing that you are not in E.O asking my partners to reach out for me on the air for my location. I will never forget the day that you were interviewed for E.O.P.D. I will never forget the excitement in your voice when you got hired with N.P.D. Eventhough we were waiting for you with open arms at E.O.P.D, God had another plan for you. I miss you checking to make sure my vest was on , and saying "Watch Your Back Out Here Girl" I'll come back through later. Our conversations were extremely funny and knowledgeable but most of all unforgetable. You were always a very very good friend to me and I Thank You. My heart still aches knowing that you are not here. I know that you are watching over all of us, who's lives you've touched in E.O.P.D. You are truly missed and most of all loved. "D" you are in our hearts forever, and I know that we are in yours. May you continue to rest in peace. My friend, My Brother in Blue, God's Angel.

I remember when this young man first walked into the South District Precinct to sign -in for his daily assignment. He was bright eyed and soft spoken, very professional. I knew he was special. Words cannot express the sorrow one feels for the family and friends of Off. Reeves. May God bless you and your family and may they come to know that you made the most selfless decision when you chose the profession that is the greatest in the world. A police officer can never be thanked enough and the world will someday realize that God and Police are the only thing that has kept this world in one piece thus far.

To Special Officer Dwayne, his loved ones and his fellow officers:

Please know that your memory is revered and honored today.

May your family continue be to comforted by the warm embrace of their law enforcement family, and other police survivors who share this painful journey with them. My heart is with your family, and I hope to meet them in D.C.

Reading all the loving reflections left by those who cared for you gives us an understanding of what a good and honorable man you were and of the high esteem with which you are held. Ashley's reflections to you always brings tears to my eyes as I see how much she misses you. I think she is definitely Daddy's princess.

Dwayne, as a peace officer you rescued us, saved our possessions, our lives and our families. You are one of the rare heroes among us. You were always there for us in the most traumatic moments of our lives. No matter when we called, we just expected that you would come and do whatever it took to help us, and you always met our expectations. Your selflessness and dedication are awe-inspiring.

This world, this country, your community truly are better places because of you. To have lost you is a great tragedy, an irreplaceable, immeasurable loss for society. We are grateful for and to you, and honor you for all you did for us day in and day out whether you received a word of thanks or praise.

Rest in Peace, Dwayne. I am so humbled by your valor and courage.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the distinquished service Dwayne gave to his community and the citizens of New Jersey, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on July 18, 2005.

I went to high school with Officer Reeves and remember him as a decent, easygoing, funny guy who was always in great shape. Our oaths separated but we both ended up in Law Enforcement. I had heard about the shooting in July but never realized he was the victim until recently (I no longer live in NJ). May God rest his soul and ease his family's pain.

"My Husband, My Man, My Life"

My husband, the one to whom I said I do.
The one to whom I felt was true.

The one that asked if he could have my hand in marriage.

The one to whom I also pushed his baby's carriage.

The one that knew I held him dear to my heart.

The one who also knew if I had my way we would never part.

A man who it was a pleasure to have known.

A man who just recently "GOD" told to come home.

The one who's now in heaven patrolling.

The one who because of "unforseen occurrences" has my heart swollen.

The one who I will love no matter what for it is he who taught me so much.

The type of person you don't meet everyday which is why I say, "I LOVE YOU" with all my being and await the day you and I will be as one in paradise for you were my life.

Sleep peacefully for all the restless, long working hour days and grief are over.

To the family and friends of Officer Dwayne Reeves and his fellow officers in the Newark School District Police Services:

On behalf of our entire family, we wanted to extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Officer Reeves was so brutally murdered.

May you continue to be comforted by the support and caring of your law enforcement community, and other police survivors. As I read the reflections about Dwayne, I saw how many people loved him and how his peers respected him. There will always be a void in the life of those who cared for Dwayne.
His courage and dedication will never be forgotten.

Our family grieves with you and for you. We share your anquish as we lost our beloved Larry Lasater when he was fatally shot on April 23, 2005 during a foot pursuit of two bank robbers.
I hope Dwayne and Larry are together keeping watch over all of us.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the service Dwayne gave to his community and the citizens of New Jersey, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on July 18, 2005.

I haven't seen or spoken to Dwayne since 1979. We were childhood friends that drifted apart in the usual way. Today I got an email from Classmates.com that told me Dwayne had recently registered; "do you want to email Dwayne?" they asked. I was inclined to ignore the message, precluding that the years and distance between two kids who ate lunch together in nursery school and first grade would be too large a gap to bridge today. But the memories came flooding back pretty quickly. I can honestly remember Dwayne at 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 years old looking exactly the same way he does now. Vivid images of him scheming, on the move, jumping into some adventure or another cascaded through my head as I drafted a quick 'wassup' message. He was one of those few people who somehow never leaves you no matter how long your apart, and I was looking forward to the reunion. Right before I sent the message though, I did a quick Google search of his name to see what would come up. I wasn't at all surprised to find that his rare combination of charisma and courage led him into law enforcement. Protecting other peoples lives for a living. I don't know how to express my anger, shock and sorrow about the way he left us, or my sympathy for his still young family. And I don't know how to recover the part of me or my childhood that left with him. In the end, I guess and I hope that I will be encouraged to do a even just a little but more in the direction that he gave his life for. But for the moment, I'm stunned and stilled by this loss.
