Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Police Officer Jesse Erick Sollman

The tragedy of 'friendly fire' struck brother Jesse E Sollman.

Reading the reflections I am touched by the love an respect that Officer Sollman enjoyed with both family and fellow Oficers. Officer Sollman múst be a great person.

With Officer Sollmans death the global brotherhood of Marines and Police Officers lost one of their own, but gained a guardian angel at the same time.

'Qua Patet Orbis; Wherever the World Extends' is written in the shield of every Royal Dutch Marine.

'Vigilat Ut Quiescant; He wakes so they can rest' is written in the shield of every Dutch Police Officer.

Both lines seem to fit Officer Sollman perfectly so I dedicate these words to him in memory of what he meant to his country en community. May he watch over us Marines and Police Officers. May he also watch over our brother who was involved in this tragedy so he will not be devastated by grief and guilt, for he too is one of ús.

May all who have to miss Officer Sollman be proud and privileged to have known this fine man and find the strength te carry on.

For what it's worth: An ocean away a Dutch Police Officer is thinking of you.

Hey Jess,
Isn't funny how you never really know how important someone is until there not here. I did know you were special though & I never thought I would never see you on this earth again. I know I'll see you again some day, but till then I just have to deal with not having you here now. I'll never forget!

October 20, 2005

One day I will cross over and Jes and Finn will be there to great me. Together we will face our creator and I will ask God why he took Jesse away from us? Why he left Jesse's children without a father, and my daughter without her husband?
It's over two hundred days since Jes was taken from us, and the void in my soul keeps getting bigger every day. I miss the sound of his voice, and the touch of his hands. When ever we got together he would give me a big hug, a kiss on the cheek, and say "hi dad, I love you".
Jes, will be in my heart forever. Until we meet once more.
Dad

To the family and friends of Officer Jesse Sollman and his fellow officers of the Easton Police Department:

I wanted to extend my deepest condolences to all of you for the grievous loss you suffered when Officer Sollman so tragically died. His dedication to his job, his valor and bravery will be forever remembered. I know this loss really affects not only his agency but the surrounding agencies who serve back up for each other. I hope the department is beginning to heal from what I know was a significant blow.
To his family, I know they will be embraced by a circle of love and support from the law enforcement community and other police survivors.

Our family lost our beloved Larry Lasater of the Pittsburg, CA Police Department when he was fatally shot on April 23, 2005 during a foot pursuit of two bank robbers. Our family shares your agony and we grieve for you. Larry was also a Marine and had been a tank commander although his last active duty assignment was at the Training Depot in San Diego. Jesse and Larry were not only brothers in blue, but brothers in green as well.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the service Officer Sollman gave to man, community and to country, and for the supreme sacrifice he and family made in the line of duty. Carin, May God watch over you and your children.

Jesse was my first love many years ago. I haven't seen him in over 12 years, but this morning, something made me "google" him. I don't know what I expected to find, but this was not it.

I knew him in high school and then later when he became a Marine. He was a great guy who turned into a wonderful man. I'm sorry that I didn't get to know the man he was before he died. I'm sure I would have loved that man too.

My heart broke when I read this today, I can't imagine what his wife and family are feeling. Please accept my deepest and most sincere condolences. Although, that hardly seems enough. Please know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers.

First let me tell you how truly sorry I am for your loss. No one should lose their husband and father at such a young age. I have thought about your family often and remember you in my prayers. Then tonight as I was watching our local news your family was once again on it, but this time for a very different reason. Please no that your family is not forgotten.

Rest In Peace, Brother. I will never forget my time in the police academy, Middlesex County NJ 60th Recruit Class, along side you. All the times Ins. Gallway yelled and screamed "Sollman, get over here!" because someone in class screwed up and you took the heat for it. One thing I knew, even then, how dedicated you were to your profession, POLICE OFFICER. God Speed my brother and I will never forget you.

The loss of Brother Officer Jesse Sollman will forever leave a dark cloud above the Easton area. Although I work for the neighboring department, this tragedy has pulled on our departments heart strings as well. Immediately after this horrific tragedy, Chief Greg Dorney (as well as additional departments in the area) scheduled officers from Forks Township to cover the streets of Easton to allow the brothers and sisters from Easton a few days to mourn. After working the streets in Easton city for only three 12 hour shifts, I have an even deeper respect for the police officers in Easton. God Bless each of you!

Each year I spend National Police Week in Washington, DC. On May 15, 2006, your name will adorn the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial wall. This will allow everyone to see how you stood tall, worked hororably and paid the ultimate price in doing what you loved most.

May you rest in eternal peace. Although at this very point in time it is very difficult for everyone to understand, but with our faith we do recognize that you can't be any-place better than seated next to the father. Police the streets of Heaven and be forever safe.

And finally Jesse; after seeing your brothers and sisters on your department the past two weeks, and believe me they are hurting very badly, rest assured they are making sure your family will be safe and secure here.

Rest in forever peace BROTHER.

Fraternally,
Craig F. Marshall
