D/S Koester, you were Sgt. Koester of Umatilla P.D. when you came into our Academy class to teach us. Your dedication to duty and professionalism shown through vividly. You were very open to questions and willing to try and help a bunch of recruits, even offering to volunteer your own time with those who wanted some extra help. I know that you will be sorely missed. Rest in peace D/S Koester and may God comfort your family.

Another domestic violence - gunshots and another officer down. As I read about this I just feel heartsick - Another family left without their son, husband, father and the friends and co-workers have to try to make some sense out of this. The wounds in your hearts are too fresh to even think so you go numbly into each moment. Please know that there are many others who ache for and pray for your family and friends that God will give you all strength to get thru each day. As a mother of a slain police officer my heart goes out to ALL of you! I think about the services that will be happening, the outpouring of love from so many - what a wonderful brotherhood the police have with each other and their ability to encircle the officers family with that love - it helps.

February 10, 2005

My deepest sympathies to Deputy Koester's family, both home family and work family. I and my family will pray for your family Wayne, because they are our family too. We, the protectors of society, are all family. You will be missed sorely. You and your sacrifice will not be forgotten. Rest in peace my friend, we will carry on for you. Your unknown brother.
