Reflections for Patrol Officer Lloyd Auther Rogers

Lloyd, although we didnt always see eye to eye, I always had alot of respect for you. I guess when i first became a police officer, i thought you didnt like my reasons. But after awhile, when we would work together, I felt that you looked out for me and my best interest. I have grown up alot since then and know now that you kinda took me under your wing and you were just trying to make me be the best i could, I will miss you alot Lloyd and i will always remember.

Lloyd, I still remember the day I had my young son with me down at West Worth Village PD. I had stopped in for a few minutes to say hi to the guys. You know I was going through a hard time, having left my agency a few weeks earlier. You understood why, and across the room you sat at the desk closest to the jail door and said to my son, "Gotta work on getting your daddy back to work huh?" Well, not long after, I landed a better agency position. I told my son of your passing and he cried that day, yeah having met you only once, he cried. He understood the good in your words. You are missed today just like yesterday, and never again will I say Fallen But Not Forgotten, nope now I will tell it like it really is. Promoted, and never forgotten. Good bye comrade

As an aspiring police officer, i feel a sad, painful sickness when an officer dies in the line of duty, it is the fear every officer faces each day. I hope the family realizes that their loss was not in vain, he died doing a job he loved, he died doing a job that made countless people safer, he died protecting and serving his community, a community that will never forget his name and the numerous accounts of good things he performed as a police officer. May you rest in peace P.O. Rogers, your in god's department now...

My thoughts and prayers go out to the family, friends and co-workers of Officer Rogers. May God you strength and comfort and walk with you during this very difficult time. Officer Rogers was given a job to do here on earth and now he has been given one in heaven (these words were spoken at my sons service, I am beginning to sense the truth in this).

We are all gathered here to pay our respects and remember Lloyd Rogers. Some of you are here because Lloyd was part of your family. Some of you are here because Lloyd was a friend. Some of you are here because Lloyd was a co-worker. And some of you are here because Lloyd was a fellow officer.

To me, Lloyd was all of things.

I have known Lloyd for about 8 years. We spent about the last 5 years working together almost daily. During that time, Lloyd and I shared a lot of experiences and a lot of our lives. I was with Lloyd during the good times and the tragedies. I felt his pain and shared in his happiness. We shared many of the same views and interests. Yet even when we disagreed on something, we respected each other’s position.

We spent many hours discussing the what we saw on the Discovery Channel or the History Channel the previous night, as we both had a shared interest in the acquisition of knowledge and learning how things worked.

Lloyd was always eager to share with me the newest technology or the history of almost anything. He told me he could have held an 8 hour course on the history of the shotgun shell, I have no doubt that he would have been crunched for time to get it all in.

Lloyd knew something about everything. It always amazed me how one person could be interested in almost any topic you brought up. I used to try to think of topics that I didn’t think he would know about and he got me every time. He was much like a walking encyclopedia, and a phone book. As most of us who worked with him could tell you, if you needed a phone number, “Go ask Lloyd” was almost always the response.

Lloyd was a true friend and an excellent police officer. He truly loved his job and took every training course he could get his hands on, simply because he WANTED to know the information.

Now the time has come that I must say goodbye to my friend and a brother. While I will miss his laugh, his smile, his sense of humor, and our conversations, I will never forget the times and experiences that we shared.
