"The Monument" I never dreamed it would be me,
My name for all eternity,
Recorded here at this hallow place,
Alas, my name, no more my face.
"In the line of duty," I hear them say:
My family now the price to pay.
My folded flag stained with their tears;
We only had those few short years.

The badge no longer on my chest,
I sleep now in eternal rest.
My sword I pass to those behind,
And pray they keep this thought in mind.

I never dreamed it would be me,
And with heavy heart and bended knee,
I ask for all here from the past:
Dear God, let my name be the last.

Thank you for what you have done.My heart goes out to your family. CT

I served with Peter in the 143rd Military Police Co of the CT National Guard. Peter was a friend and a teacher to me, he has touched my life as he has so many others. Although I had not seen Peter in many years, I know that if I needed something, Peter would be there to help out, that's the kid of guy Peter was. He will be missed. God bless you Peter and may you watch over your brothers in blue.

MPO Lavery,
Thank you for your sacrifice and service to your community and to our country. We had just a hero the day before as well, you two are probably in Heaven sharing war stories since you both were veterans and fallen Heros'.

My heart goes out to the family of Brother Lavery. Although it doesn't make the grief any easier now, Peter is a true American hero who exemplifies why we put on the badge and gun every day. Just like the song "The Dance" explains, Peter probably wouldn't have picked any other profession, even if he could foresee the end. God Bless Brother Lavery and his family.
