Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Robert Walter Hedman

I was honored to be able to attend the memorial service for Deputy Hedman today, along with six other El Paso PD officers and our Assistant Chief.

I never knew you, Deputy Hedman, but it was obvious that you were a real American hero; someone whose service, sacrifice and heroism spanned the decades and ended with the ultimate sacrifice to protect your fellow man and serve your community.

I knew no words of comfort to offer your tremendously strong and loving family when they walked by; I could only lower my head. The love you had for them and the service you gave your community has touched me deeply and I will always remember you when I'm feeling troubled or weak. May your spirit always protect your family, especially your grandson Caleb.

To Deputy Hedmans Family and Co-Workers

These events take a heavy toll
On Law Enforcement as a whole
Tragedies occur and we know not why
We do know that Angels are nigh
I pray you not fear
And I hope that you hear
Heavens choir rejoice and sing
As Bob hears the voice of our King

Deputy Hedman you were a breed apart
Giving of your lifetime and heart
For service in Nam and at home
Thank you, and in heaven roam
You've shown a courage rare
Thank you, for being there
Be "at ease" on a peaceful mesa up high
As this brother in blue says goodbye

Altus Police Dept. OK

Every leo wonders each day as we get ready for duty, "what things will happen today?" I am saddened by the loss of another brother, another hero. My family and I send our most heart felt love, respect and admiration to you, your family and your department in this difficult time.
Rest easy now brother, we have your watch.

Like many others have posted here, I would like to personally thank each and every one of you for doing so. This website and the many messages have lifted our spirits.

I will remember Bob's kindness & compassion most of all. But also the fact that he was always there when needed. And many times was the first to show.

Not only was that small child's life possibly saved due to Bob giving his own. He was also there to save a heart attack victim last year on the side of the road. He was a hero in life as well as death and none of it was mis-spent energy. After all, look at what he left behind.

To you all, still on duty: Be safe and live each day to the fullest. Know that you are loved by more than your brothers and sisters in arms, every minute of every day. We mustn't let events like these happen before we let our loved ones know how much we love them.

Warmest regards & thanks to you all,

Mike's 10-12

I would like to take a moment to thank all who placed tributes to our fallen deputy. Bob was a kind and caring deputy, who was respected by the community and his peers. He's our hero who in all probability saved the life of a small child, by sacrificing his own. He will truly be missed by us all.

Each day you put on your uniform, gun belt and badge, knowing it could be your last, yet you take that fear and uncertainty and use it to your advantage. You walk into every situation not knowing what you really have, yet every day you still proudly wear that badge. For that, we thank you, you are a special kind of person. To your family and your law enforcement family, our thoughts and prayers are with you, with this being and especially difficult time. Deputy Hedman will be in good company.

Sir, you are 10-7, good night, and God Bless.
