Dear Officer Laurie and Family,

I have just finished reading your story and some of the reflections left for you and wanted to add my sincere love and thanks to you, and my support and understanding to your family.

We lost our precious son, Matthew, HPD 920, when Hurricane Ivan came through our area in 2004. He LOVED being a police officer as I can tell you did and your son Bryan does. I cried when I read some of Bryans reflections. I know your father is so proud of you, as you are of him.

We hold your sacrifice close to our hearts.

Linda Rittenhouse,
Always Matt's Mom

Nate, I wrote yesterday and didn't say enough. You have been heavily on my mind of late, and didn't know why. Now I know. While you and I were in the Marine Corps stationed and working around the world together, we became closest of friends. I wish I could have gotten a hold of you earlier, now I will have to wait to talk to you. You are definatley a Brother in Arms. Thanks for everything.

Dear family of Officer Laurie,

Thank you for the kind reflection you left on my husband's site.

I wanted to take a moment to reach out to you and tell you that you are all in my thoughts and prayers. Nathan's service and supreme sacrifice are not forgotten.

This is a very painful journey that I never expected to take, but as I visit the ODMP and read reflections left for all the heroes listed there I truly find comfort. Comfort in knowing there are so many other families willing to reach out and share their experiences. Comfort in knowing that my husband is in such good company now, walking Heaven's streets of gold with so many fine men and women. Comfort in knowing that we will see them again and that - until then - they will continue to guide and protect us as we continue on without them.

I'm looking forward to meeting you all in Washington in May.

Thank you, Officer Laurie, for your service and sacrifice. May God bless you and may you rest in peace, Blue Angel.

Bryan - I'm sure you are making your father very, very proud.

I see why first hand now what you loved about being a cop. Its almost Christmas and these are probably the hardest times for me, just wishing you could be there when the family gathers around. I know you are watching me while im on patrol, and sometimes I swear when I look in that passenger seat I can see you... mainly telling me how to drive (LOL). Well I miss you and love you. Brother Laurie,

May the road rise up to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
And the rains fall soft upon your fields,
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Respectfully,
You’re Brothers in Blue

Hey dad! Happy Belated Birthday. Hope you had a big party in the sky with all of your friends. I still see all the reflections others are leaving you to this day, it doesnt suprise me...you are so loved. You are a great man and I miss you dearly. Bryan is doing well, he is working too much overtime, but what can I say...he is YOUR son. Zoe and Jeffrey are growing like crazy...I know your watching (unless of course your watching the history chanel..ha ha). Work is going well, I love what I do. I know that you were so proud of mom and I going to school, I hope she can get the strength from you to help others and use her schooling. I have been thinking about aunt Sabrina alot lately...she is hard to get ahold of, let her know that she is being thought of. Well Im going to bed, just wanted to let you know I love you and miss you. Continue to keep Bryan safe on the streets for me, ok. Hope to see you in my dreams.

Nathan, I have wanted to write to you so many times and never could come up with all the words to express how much you are missed. Jesse and I think about you all the time and know that you are up above watching us and taking care of us like you always promised. I take comfort each and every night that Jesse leaves for work because I know that you are his guardian angel watching over him.
You would be so very proud of him. We were blessed on July 6th with the birth of Thunder, and Jesse is such a wonderful father to him. I know that you are waiting for the day that Thunder gives Jesse hell and we’ll hear your laughter in the background.

Thank you for watching us…We LOVE and MISS YOU dearly…

Nate,
Still missed today, Everybody misses you. Moved onto another agency 7 months ago, and a shift does not go by that I dont think of you. A high speed chase in our city last week, I knew you were with me, each traffic stop, you are there. Every disturbance call I go to, I know your watching above. You take care and keep the eye sharp for all of us.

To the family and friends of Officer Nathan Laurie and his fellow officers with the River Oaks Police Department:

On behalf of our entire family, I wanted to extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Officer Laurie was killed.

To Bryan, how proud your father must be of you. I am sure he is watching over you during every shift. To Katie, thanks for reflections you leave on other sites. All of us survivors know how precious each posting is as it lets us know our loved ones and their sacrifices are not forgotten.

May you continue to find comfort in the warm embrace of support and love from your law enforcement community. Undergoing a devastating experience like this forges bonds between blood families and police families that can never be broken.

Our family lost our beloved Larry Lasater of the Pittsburg Police Department when he was fatally shot on April 23rd during a foot pursuit of two bank robbers. Larry left a loving wife and his son, born 2 1/2 months after Larry's murder, as well as all his extended family and friends who loved him so much. It is so heartbreaking that all these children are being deprived of their parents, and families are losing their beloved. My heart goes out to all of you, and we grieve with you and for you. I know that Heaven has another hero, but how I wish this accident had not happened to your cherished Nathan.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the years of service Nathan gave to his community and the citizens of the state of Texas, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on July 29, 2004.
