Reflections for Police Officer Gary Cooper Davis

Today marks one year. A day that changed so many lives at once. Today was a tough day. I caught myself looking at the clock and remembering. I wore a blue ribbon for you today. I read an article in the paper and burst into tears. The emotions are still so raw and I cannot even look at your picture without crying and getting ill thoughts about the coward who caused all of us to hurt like this. We all miss you so much. I have not been able to call Nicki because I am afraid that Ill start crying while I am talking about you. Please watch over Dick and be his angel while he is on the road doing what you guys love to do. I miss you so much Gary; and that will never change. Knowing you has made change my life in every positive way you could imagine.

Gary
Today marks a year of sadness, but also a day of thanks.
I am thankful for the times we were able to meet and all the times we conversed in a variety of ways.
On bright sunny days, Your beacon caring smile, still shines down and soothes us. Bad weather reminds me there is yet much work to be done.
A lot of people really miss you!
Knowing you are in a much better place is a comfort. Your influence is still changing lives for the good.
I honor you and all of our fallen hero's who chose to serve and protect, as well as those who have and currently serve.
I pray Nicki, Family and your closest friends can gain strength and comfort by celebrating your life and the positives you gave all of us who truly care.

Coop,

It's coming up on a year since the accident. They keep putting off the trial date for the person responsible for it all.

A bunch of us from the department are going to D.C. to honor and remember you during Police Officer Memorial Week. The Candlelight Vigil is on the anniversary date. We all know you will be smiling down on us. I've always wanted to go to D.C., but I never thought I'd be honoring one of our own.

We miss hearing 180 on the radio. We think about you EVERYDAY and carry you with us on EVERY call. Keep looking over all of us. Thanks.

Why is this so hard? Why does every day feel like May 13th? I miss you so much bud. I hope that you know that.

Not a day goes by where I don't think what if...what if you were still here...you are a ray of light that will never fade. I miss you so much and still almost one year later, the pain is still there. I cannot think about you without getting tears in my eyes. You are one of the greatest men I have ever known and one of the strongest. Keep watching over us Coop.

Today in the sun, I bid him farewell
A man, a hero, I never knew well

Like many before him, who answered the call
Wearing a badge, he was destined to fall

Though by choice a long life and a happy old age
Would he have chosen, had he written the page

But the office he chose never promised long life
Just half of his salary, for his child and his wife

He went without fear, into the darkness of night
Bringing comfort to some, to some others light

Easing their pain and calming their fears
He did his duty, never asking for cheers

A husband, a cop, he answered the call
We bid him farewell for he gave his all

Officer Davis,

It has been very hard, and still is to know that you are not here with us. You have touched many lives of numerous people including mine. You were always there for me during the most difficault period of my life. I am not quite sure that I have ever told you how much your support ment to me, for that I am truly sorry. I will be going to the trial to see justice being served. Whenever I see a drunk driver on the road I make sure to report them. You will always be remembered as one of the most honorable people that I have ever known. God bless you and your family

Its strange to see someone with the same first name on this memorial, it makes you think. I am saddened over the sensless loss and furious over what caused it, two impaired drivers at the same time. We battle them here as well and Gary we will NEVER STOP FIGHTING. God bless your family. Rest my friend we will never forget you or what you did.

Gary,
I did not have the honor to ever meet you but I have met your wife and she is one of the strongest people I know. Under these terrible circumstances , we have found some true friends that know exactly what we are going through.

Nicki, if you ever need anything, you can count on me - I hope you know that.
Gary will not be forgotten - you both are in my thoughts always.

Coop,
Where do I begin? I think of you everyday and miss you just as much. You were an incredible friend and an awesome cop. Your level or professionalism and integirty always amazed me. I miss seeing you come into the office and smiling from ear to ear. You were such a positive person. You always set my day. You were a true gem to the law enforcement world and to our lives. You are the reason I take great pleasure in typing drunk driving warrants. You will always be my "brother" and we will never forget you. Love you Coop!

To Gary's family, friends and brother officer's, I would like to extend my condolences to you all. I am a retired officer with 17 years on the job and I also know how it feels personally, to lose a family friend and a police officer as well, in the line of duty. I am also a Mopar owner and have attended many of the Mopar event's over the country and I can almost bet that I either saw or have spoken to Gary many times in person and on the internet and didn't know that we had so much in common! It is with my deepest regret that I learn of his passing. Our Lord and savior has a plan for all of us and I know that he has welcomed Gary home. God bless you all.

Gary,

There are no words to express my grief over your loss. My prayer is that with time, our happy memories of your life will overshadow the pain of your passing. You were a light on earth, Gary. I can only imagine how bright that light shines now in heaven.

The greatest legacy we can give you is to continue to fight the good fight, despite our grief and pain. We know you will be with us.

In your memory, in your honor - we will carry on. Rest in peace, friend. We will meet again.

May God comfort your family, friends and all of the members of the Bloomfield Twp PD. My heart and prayers are with you all.

Gary- although we worked together a short time, some pieces of your being stick in my mind. Your gift of humor, and great ear for different dialects; your humanity in always making sure the prisoners you processed had something to eat and drink before being locked up for the night; and the easy camraderie
you established with your co-workers.
It was a privelege knowing you. Watch over us all!
