Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Patrolman Lloyd R. Aragon, Sr.

I met Lloyd when I was a patrolman in Grants. I was with NMSP and he was with Grants PD. When I transferred to Criminal Investigations, Lloyd was able to take my place in Grants and return home. I never thought I would see the day I would have to be involved in an investigation involving the death of a fellow officer much less Lloyd. His death hit the State Police and the community of Grants close to the heart. Lloyd was well known and liked by all and will truly be missed.

To Lloyd's family, the words may be hard for us to express but please know you are always in our thoughts and prayers.

Lieutenant Pete Kassetas
New Mexico State Police

I had the great pleasure of working with Lloyd from the very beginning of my career with the NMSP. I have never met a better more caring person in my life.

Lloyd was always there and always had a genuine interest in what other people had to say.

We had a motorcycle rally in Grants a few weeks before Lloyd was killed. Lloyd and I were standing next to the main street in Grants talking. It seemed like almost half of the cars and motorcycles that passed us honked and yelled out the window, "Hi Lloyd!" I kept asking him who that was and would tell me that it was someone he had arrested in the past. That was the kind of person he was and that always will stay with me.

I will always miss that smile.

I love you brother!

Patrolman Scott Merrill
New Mexico State Police

LLOYD WAS ONE OF THE BEST AND WILL BE MISSED BY ALL OF US HERE WITH THE NM STATE POLICE. HE LOVED HIS JOB AND LEFT THIS WORLD DOING EXACTLY THAT "CRUSHING CRIME"

FELIPE JAUREGUI
NM STATE POLICE

May God be with the family and friends of Lloyd.

Officer Aragon is a hero to all of us. His willingness to assist even when he was off duty was a sign of his and all police officers dedication to keeping everyone safe. I will pray for Officer Aragon and his family. Be Safe!!!

Patrolman
Albuquerque Police Department

Lord, we pray that he is the last.

On behalf of the Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge #1, our deepest heartfelt condolences on this tragic loss. We will always remember your dedication, bravery, and ultimate sacrafice in protecting our Nation, and your community. This service was not in vain, for it displayed uncommon valor in this collective effort to make our Nation free from the evil that exists in our world today.
"The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stonghold in times of trouble. Those who know your name will trust in you, for you Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you." Psalm 9:9-10

John D. Sainz, Chaplain
Tucson Police Department

To the Aragon family,
Words cannot do justice to nor help with the pain you feel at this time. Will there ever be a satisfactory explanation of why? Probably not. Please know that Lloyd loved you all very much. I was fortunate enough to speak with Lloyd a week before this tragedy. We were just "shooting the bull" while awaiting orders at the command post of a crime scene. He made it a point to mention his family in his conversations. I know that he was a dedicated State Police Officer, but most importantly, I know he lived for and was dedicated to his family.
Your loss is felt by all of us. You will always be loved and be a part of the State Police Family.
To Lloyd Jr.,
Your father is a true HERO. He is a great man that you will always be proud of. Nobody will ever be able to take his place and nobody should. However, I do know hundreds of guys that shared the black and grey with your dad that would be proud and honored to be your friend and take you fishing sometime.

Lloyd Aragon was one of my patrolmen when I worked as a police dispatcher for Grants Police Department, 1988-1991. He worked Split Shift with his canine partner. Lloyd willingly took any and all calls throughout his shift, and sometimes with no break. He always had a smile and a hug for me.

When I left to go to the Cibola County Sheriff's Department, Lloyd left the police department to go back to the police academy. He was going to be a New Mexico State Police Officer. He wanted a chance to advance in his career, and to be challenged. I was so proud of him when he graduated. I pinned a tiny gold angel on his uniform. It was symbolic of protection...

When I went to Milan Village Police, if Officer Lloyd Aragon was nearby, he was backup for my officers. He still had a ready smile, a hug, and was still my patrolman.

I dearly loved Officer Lloyd Aragon as a cherished friend. I will miss him always. My peace is knowing that he's safe in the Arms of The Lord.

To the family of Officer Aragon.
He did not die in vain he died doing what he loved to do helping others, you are in our thoughts and prayers, and you will be together again. Also please remember, he was taken because there needed to be a changing of the guard at the pearly gates.

My heart goes out to OFC Aragon and his family, we lost an officer last month and it has been a time of healing and reflection for us all. Hopefully his family and friends can gather comfort in the fact that he was doing what he was trained to do and he did not die in vain and we will continue on in his memory and honor. Officer Lloyd Aragon was one of the finest police officers within the New Mexico State Police. I supervised Officer Aragon. Not only was he a fine state police officer, he was also a super human being. He cared for his department, fellow officers and the community to which he worked. He will be dearly missed by, not just the law enforcement community within Cibola County, but by the citizens of the county. We will miss him dearly!

Sgt Richard Doty
New Mexico State Police

First he takes the oath.
Now look at all he takes---

He takes it in stride when people call him a pig.
He takes time to stop and talk to children.
He takes your verbal abuse while giving you a ticket that you deserve...
He takes on creeps that you would be afraid to even look at.

He takes time away from his family to keep you safe.
He takes your injured children to the hospital.
He takes the graveyard shift without complaint because it's his turn.
He takes his life into his hands daily.

He takes you home when your car breaks down.
He takes time to explain why both of your headlights have to work.
He takes the job that no one else wants---
telling you that a loved one has died.

He takes criminals to jail.
He takes in sights that would make you cry.
Sometimes he cries too, but he takes it anyway because someone has to.

If he is lucky, he takes a retirement.
He takes memories to bed each night, that you couldn't bear for one day!
Sometimes he takes a bullet.
And yes, occasionally he takes a free cup of coffee.
Then one day he pays for all he has taken...

GOD takes him
