At the beginning of every shift I supervise, myself and the other officers on shift dedicate the day to the memory of a fallen officer.

Tonight, May 21, 2004 we dedicated the shift to the memory of Police Officer Perrin Richard Love II who died in the line of duty on this date five years ago.

When one law enforcement officer falls, we all stumble for a while, but we will carry on.

Officer Love's sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Stop! Look! Listen!

Stop the world, it's time to be

To slow the pace, to hear and see

To let my thoughts and feelings go

Observe in nature what is so.

'Tis beautiful, this world around

To eye and ear, both sight and sound.

Other feelings within me deep

Are looking for a peace...and sleep.

Look son! Do you see, as I?

Puffy white clouds and the big blue sky

Tall green trees waving to and fro

The long green grass is down below.

A squirrel scampers up a tree

A bird flits by as if to see

The silent form who tries to keep going

Do you see my tears so freely flowing?

Listen son! Can you hear?

Sounds in nature far and near.

A barking dog, many birds in song

The hoot of an owl, bugs "chirping" along.

A far off plane, the whir of a fan

Fire crackers pop, the hammer of a man.

Despite music played since we're apart,

Do you hear the deafening silence of my empty heart?

July 13, 2000 - You would have been 27 tomorrow, son.

We all miss you - Mom, Dad, Josh, and Jenny

Ricky was a public servant

He dressed in navy blue,

And when he went to work each day

He protected me and you.

Policemen are a special breed,

Their lives on the line each shift

But this dedication of service

Was given as a gift.

A gift from God nobody could argue

His talent was great and true,

To serve as a Police Officer

Protecting me and you.

His smile was bright

And his laughter loud

His wonderful spirit carries on

As he looks down from his cloud.

He was proud of the career he chose

This job's fit for very few.

He was doing what he wanted to do,

Helping, Serving and Protecting me and you!

God Bless Ricky!

I didn't know you. But even today, November 7, 1999, as I read about you and the other reflections before mine, I shed tears for you. I too was once an LEO in Charleston, SC. I have lost a few fellow officers , whom I did not know well, but missed. You will always be remembered. I hope you are with God, and will be with any officer in need to guide him or
her when he or she is in danger. Stay with your family and guide them also. Pray for us all here on Earth and help us find the Light. You are missed and loved, even by strang

Former cop

Somebody killed a policeman today,

And a part of America died.

A piece of the country he swore to protect

Will be buried with him at his side.

The beat that he walked was a battlefield, too,

Just as if he had gone off to war;

Though the flag of our nation won’t fly at half-mast,

To his name they will add a gold star.

The suspect who shot him will stand up in court,

With counsel demanding his rights;

While a young, widowed mother must work for her kids,

And spend many long, lonely nights.

Yes, somebody killed a policeman today

Maybe in your town or mine.

While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors,

A cop put his life on the line.

Now his ghost walks the beat on a dark city street,

And he stands at each rookie’s side.

He answered the call…of himself he gave all,

And a part of America died.

The Final Inspection

The policeman stood and faced his God,which must always come to pass.

He hoped his shoes were shining just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman. How shall I deal with you?

Have you always turned the other cheek?

To my church have you been true?

The policeman squared his shoulders and said.

"No, I guess I ain't because those of us who carry a badge can't always be a Saint."

I've had to work most Sundays

and at times my talk is rough,

and sometimes I've been violent,

because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny that wasn't mine to keep...

though I worked a lot of overtime when the bills got to steep.

And I never passed a cry for help

though at times I shook with fear,

and sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place among the people here.

They never wanted me around except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here, Lord, it needn't be so grand,

I never expected or had too much, but if you don't...I'll understand"

There was a silence all around the throne where the Saints had often trod.

As the policeman waited quietly for the judgment of his God.

"Step forward now, policeman.

You've borne you burdens well.

Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets.

You've done your time in Hell"

Perrin, you were a good man. Even though I only knew you for those 4 months I lived next to you in the Police Corps academy, I knew you had what it takes to be a good officer. I remember all those times Sergeant Hattori said one of use would be involve in a shooting, I just never thought it would one of you guys from Charleston. I was waiting for one of the Portland guys to be involved. We had a lot of good times in Camp Rilea and I will never forget them. God bless your family and I will see you on the other side in heaven.

Perrin:

I was looking through some pictures of the four of us, (Love, Manning, Womack, Broderick)and reflected on the time we all spent together at the Police Corps Academy in Oregon.

I never expected it to turn out this way. Wish we had more time together. It would have been nice to compare notes after four years on the job.

October 5, 2002 will make four years. You only saw 7 months.

See you when I get to Heaven.

Your friend,

Israel
