Going to Fort Campbell this weekend to see the Viet Nam war memorial wall. It always makes me think how lucky we were to come home with just a few scratches and a couple of stitches. The new Sheriff and his Chief Deputy seem to be doing a good job so far. I have'nt seen anything bad on the front page of the Times. The only ones left from the old days are Tommy Ryan (Sergeant, day shift), Marty Groves (well, you know?) and Charles Hilliard (Lieutenant, Patrol Division). A couple have gone to School Resources, I guess to hide cause their both getting close to a Senior Citizen discount at Arbys. I started going to a little church near Dover and Kentucky Lake. I figured I might need some help since I've broken all of the Ten Commandments, some of the several times. A good word from you might help. Take good care, I miss talking to you.

Stopped by your grave site last Wednsday. Snow, high winds and cold. I did'nt stay to long. It still feels peaceful on that little hill. The old store across the street looks the same, most likely the same old people are inside too. It's been a year since tina's jamie passed away and we went to visit her grave. Take care.

Merry Christmas Chief. I heard that Mike Henderson hired one of my young officers from my department "James Yates". He's a fine officer and I was always proud of him. You'll see, fifteen years from now Mike will be in a nursing home with us and James will be "Chief". Hope your family has a wonderful Christmas this year. Tina and I are spending it with the animals this year. I always save money with the four legged children.

Hard to believe it's been 13 years since you left. Things are really changing down here. War, ecomomy, lots of things. But, Okay, you need to hold on to your hat with this one. "Adams" has a Dollar General store. A par 3 town and they have a "DG". "Frog" Caroland wanted me to be the Chief there back in the early 90s, but I had arrested one of the Alderman for DUI a few years earlier. So I not only got voted out of the job, they voted to not even have a chief. Can you imagine patrolling it at night with the Bell Witch out flying around, and Jennifers mom out flying around too. Now thats scary.

I was up around your old stomping ground yesterday. Even though it's starting to build up it's still quiet late at night. I think you'd be proud of the way Mike Henderson has been keeping the peace since you left. I miss you allot Chief. I miss talking to you and hearing your jokes that always took a few seconds to understand.

Bill Holt beat Larry Cook for Sheriff. I was a little surprised. I just didn't see that many of Holts signs. I hope he does good. I'm just glad I don't have to stress over that mess anymore. I'll see you later Wally.

Went through the county the other day. Lots of signs are up for a new Sheriff. Sheriff Bollinger is calling it quits. I hope the best for him, he's done allot for the county. Bill Holt is running and Larry Cook is running against him. I saw allot of Larry Cook signs and a few of Bill Holts. I'm glad I don't have to mess with that stuff anymore. I still think Charles Hilliard should run. Or at least the new Sheriff should make him Chief Deputy. I think the elections in August, I'll keep you informed.

Went by your house today and circled the neighborhood a couple of times. Not much has changed. Maybe a bit more vinyl siding. The old barn next to the fire station has been painted bright orange with a huge "UT" painted on the door. You can't miss it.

All my wounds from the helecopter crash have caught up with me. Alot of pain. Got a Titanium hip last August and am going the 18th to get my hand fixed again. VA people are doing all they can to get rid of me. You know if you ask a doctor what percentage he graduated in his class and he flips out on you. Well you've got a fair idea it was near the bottom. Sat around in the yard Veterans Day doing what I do best anymore, nothing. It's really not all that bad. I'll give you a yell when my hands done. Tell Ranger I miss him....Cookie

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 12th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Rest In Peace
