As a USMC "brat," and later an officer, living in Prince William County, I had the opportunity to meet many of the law enforcement personnel, who were always courteous and professional to me.

Officer Pennington, may You Rest-In-Peace.

I'll always remember 3 dates from my 25 years with the department....my hire date, my retirement date, but most of all Nov.22, 1990.
I will never forget

Your Legacy Lives On. You are still remembered; even by those who did not know you.

I was in the academy in Arlington when a PWC SWAT officer relayed the story. I worked briefly with his wife who made the decision to follow in Officer Pennington's footsteps. He made the ultimate sacrifice. God bless him and angels be with him.

Mike
I know there is not a day that goes by that those of us there that fateful day do not think of you and the sacrifice you made. As many of us retire and go on with our lives after police work, we will always wish you were there to go on with us. I think of you often and wish there had been something one of us could have done to prevent the outcome. You will always be remembered for you dedication, toughness, and example to others.
We will always miss you.

I was turning 8 when this happened. Too young to really understand. It wasn't until I was a recruit at the academy, and we ran in formation from the academy to the Pennington Range again and again, that I stopped to find out exactly where the name came from. It was also right around this time that my dad, a SWAT officer from another department, recalled fondly of how good you were on the job. We always hear of those who have close encounters on the job and they hang up the belt and go home. You didn't. Rest in peace, you will always be an inspiration.

Mike, just wanted you to know you haven't been forgotten. You paid the ultimate price for us but I know you died doing what you believed in. I can still hear you say "Works for me!" You have your sweet son with you now and I know you both look down and protect those you love. God Bless, Mike........

It has been 15 years ago today that you lost your life attempting to arrest the suspect who had shot me earlier that evening. I wish that there had been an entirely different outcome to this event and wonder what could have been done to make it a different ending.

Mike,
The incident that took you away from us is ever pressed in my mind. I was one street away from the incident and monitored the entire situation on my scanner. I was devastated when the word went out that you had been shot. I, along with many want to thank you for the sacrafice you made while trying to protect us. You will never be forgotten. I know your son is now with you and I pray that your spirit will live on in Prince William County forever!
God Bless!!!

Mike,
All of us from the department who were fortunate enough to know you and work with you before your death still miss you immensely. Your smile, sense of humor and zeal for the job made you a top notch officer. Your compassion and caring attitude made you a good friend. Your love for Connie and Michael made you a great Dad and Husband. You now have your son Michael at your side with you in Heaven. We miss you both.

I read the other day that your son has joined you in Heaven - what a happy reunion that must have been! Please continue to watch over us--and God Bless your wife/son's mother - please help her through what must be such a difficult time.

Officer Pennington, thank you for your to Prince William County, the Commonwealth of Virginia and our nation. Thank you for protecting all of us. You will not be forgotten. You are one of our blue angels now. Mike, you go rest high on that mountain . . . while most of us give "some", you gave "all." Rest in peace my brother. We'll proudly cover your post on the thin blue line. With brotherly love and respect, Jim Crotty (former Richmond, VA Police Officer).

Mike, I didn't really know you for I had only been at the ADC for 2 years. I do think of you and your family, I met your wife when she became a Police Officer with the same department that you work for. She is a wonderful person. God Bless You Mike, for you're forever in my thought.

Mike. Just wanted to say that it's been 11 years since you left us. I just wanted to let you know that you are still remembered. You gave your life to save others. You will never be forgotten. Stay safe on the other side.
