Det. Sgt. Williams,
On today, the 90th anniversary of your death I would just like to say thank your for your service and sacrifice-not just for your Community but for our Country as well when you served with the U.S. Army as a member of the American Expeditionary Force in Europe fighting the Germans during World War I. And to your Family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.

Eighty-eight years ago today you left your Sunday dinner with your family to respond to a call. You never returned to them. I am sure you know, but your name is carried proudly by your family and all who serve the Springfield Police Department.

By the way Grandpa, your son, my Dad, lived a great life and is with you and Grandma. Peace.

Gone, but certainly not forgotten. The Springfield Police Department's award for valor was named after Sergeant Williams. Everyday his name, engraved on the award, is worn in the community by those officers who are carrying on in his fine tradition. Gone, but NEVER FORGOTTEN!
