Reflections for Officer Kevin Joseph Welsh

Kevin was not only a hero to the public, but to his fellow officers, his family, and his friends. His story of heroism was so remarkable he was recognized by the late Peter Jennings of ABC News as his "Person of the Week." Kevin's wife Judy remains a hero, as well. Judy was 8 and 1/2 month pregnant the day Kevin gave his life for a stranger. She was a tower of strength all during the weeks after Kevin's death, and for the families of other lost officers over the years. She also single-handedly raised their three children, of whom Kevin would be extremely proud.

You were one of the finest partners I had. You were a good policeman and a fine husband.

Kevin, this year will be 20 years since we lost you. There has not a day gone by since that day at the river that things in life remind me of you and your dedication to our litte sqd. and the dept. I probably can say for Dana and Steve we will always remember and know you will be waiting at our "FINAL ROLL CALL"

You gave your life while attempting to save another. That is the mark of a true hero. God bless you and keep you always.
