Joseph Samuel Brumett, III

Trooper Brumett was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver while recovering a tire from the center divider of I-15.

He was assisting with a multiple-vehicle accident at the time. The driver of the vehicle that struck him then hit two cars, slightly injuring the drivers, and then fled the scene on foot.

The 27-year-old suspect was later apprehended and convicted of hit-and-run, driving without a license, and driving with no insurance and sentenced to 18 months in jail. He was acquitted of negligent homicide.

Trooper Brumett had served with the Utah Highway Patrol for nine months. He was survived by his wife.
