James Douglas Schultz

Officer James Schultz succumbed to his injuries when he was struck by a vehicle at approximately 11:25 p.m. on Interstate 8.

He was checking on an unattended vehicle parked on the shoulder of Interstate 8 near the Gordon Wells area when a passing motorist accidentally hit him. The motorist immediately stopped and assisted Officer Schultz's partner to provide medical care until EMTs arrived. He was transported to the Yuma Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries.

Officer Schultz had served with the California Highway Patrol for 24 years. He is survived by his wife and son

On today, the 25th anniversary of your death I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice-not just as a Law Enforcement Officer but for our Country as well when you served with the U.S. Army. And to your Family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.
