I don't know much about Julius. My father, Dennis Nelson, who passed away on Aug. 24, 2016, told me Julius was his Great Grandfather. Now with all these policemen being senselessy killed, It remined me of my him and how he was killed. I just wanted to write on here to let him know he is not forgotten and I'm sorry I never got to know more about him.

Rest in Peace Great Great Grandfather,
tell my father I love and miss him and give each other a hug from me.

Julius Nielsen was my great, great grandfather. Does anyone know any more information on this "Charles Welling" that killed him? Our family says that there were some ties to New York/Chicago gangsters...

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 91rst anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be remembered and revered.

Your end of watch was so long ago, but never forgotten. My grandfather, a long time Kenmare resident, remembered you and talked of your service to the community. Rest peacefully and God bless you.

The North Dakota Peace Officers Association constructed a Peace Officer Memorial which is located on the Capitol Grounds in Bismarck, ND. Prior to dedication of the memorial I researched and located records in the city archives where Charles Welling was arraigned for the murder of Officer Neilson.

Officer Nielson will always be remembered. Ironic but September 18 was the end of his watch, and September 18 was the day I began employment with the department.
