Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Patrolman Keith E. Neumann

Far too young. Condolences to his wife and peace to the officer involved.

I pray God watches over all of the Essex Detectives, P.O.'s, and all the fellow brothers and sisters across the nation.

God bless all the families that these losses have affected. May you find peace in knowing that you will be forever protected by our fallen heros and that they will never be forgotten.

Sincerely,
A friend of an Essex Sheriff Detective

The policeman stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry a badge
can't always be a saint."

I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at time I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't I'll understand.

There was a silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgement of his god.

"Step forward now, policeman,
You've born your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell"

Madelyn,

I had the privilege of meeting you this past weekend in Washington D.C. during National Police Week. You are a part of an all too large group of truly amazing women that I am so privileged to have met and gotten to know. This past weekend was a truly amazing and overwhelming experience that I will cherish for the rest of my life. You and Mike were so warm and helpful to us over the weekend. We will see you again next year.

Madeline, you are such a sweetheart. I am so saddened of the loss of your husband. After talking with you this morning at the Buena Vista Police Unity Tour, you and I seem to have "a lot" in common. I appreciate you and your support more than you will ever know. I just wanted to say thank you and for you to know that you have made me smile again to know that I am not alone. Love, Denise

Keith was a good officer, always receptable and respected. He graduated the police academy, and was very proud that he was chosen to become a member of the elite swat team. He trained hard to make the team. His plaque hangs in Essex County Headquarters, as a reminder to all. He was inducted into the Columbia High School Hall of Fame, he will never be forgotten.
