To the family of Lt Musterman and the St. Charles County Department, I am so very sorry for his tragic death. He died a hero serving, protecting and sacrificing for his community. What a man of honor to be remembered.
I cried when reading the previous reflections from son's, grandsons, neices, friends and fellow officers and am greatly encouraged to know he's not forgotten after so many years. I know the pain of losing a family member in the line of duty, the trauma the family suffers, the heart ache that never goes away and colors every aspect of life after ward.
Our son, Missouri State Trooper James M. Bava was killed in the line of duty just three years ago, and as his mom my worst fear is that he will be forgotten.
May Lt Musterman's memory be honored and never forgotten. Sincerest condolences to the family.

Christopher Musterman,
Grandson.
All though I never got to meet you and get your wonderful wisdom.
You are one of the reasons to inspire me to go farther. I am currently following in your footsteps and will do everything in my power to be just as equal as yourself. I'm still on the path to becoming a law enforcement officer, But when I do I'll know that I'll have you looking over me when I'll need you the most.
Rest in peace Grandpa Al.

My memories are still strong, I remember the fishing and sitting in the truck while he nailed his deer. Although I was only 7 I remember very well when they knocked on the door to inform mother that Dad was gone. I am proud to have had Albert Musterman as a father...God Bless you Dad!!

Today is the 42nd anniversary of my Uncle Al's passing. As I think back to that day, I remember it all very clearly. I was just 12 years old and was woken up suddenly by my young cousin, Bobby who I think was about 5. My eyes opened and he was tapping me on the shoulder, he said to me, "My daddy got shot." I jumped out of bed to find our house full of people. My father was Marty Musterman, older brother of Lt. Musterman. It took some time before it became clear to me that he had died from his injury. I remember how sad and hard that time was for our family. My father took it very hard, he had already lost his older brother. The funeral was unlike any I had attended before or since. The 21 guns salute will always be a very strong memory to me, evey time I see one on tv I always think of Uncle Al (or Uncle Goober to us kids). He was in the prime of his life, a vital and kind man. I recall how exciting it was to walk home to see his police car pulled up to our house, he stopped by often. That Thanksgiving, just days before he died, he stopped by to wish us a happy holiday. That is my last memory of my Uncle. Now I can recall the fun times, the bar-b-ques, the hunting trips he and my dad went on and his love for his family. God bless you Uncle Al!

I was pulled over by Officer Musterman on the not yet opened new Hywy. 94 in Harvester Mo. circa 68 or 69. Officer Musterman politely stated that although the new road was not in use, we were trespassing and he was worried that we may get hurt (we were drag racing). He let us off with a warning. Not too long after that he was killed. I've remembered his kindness all these years later as I'm sure I always will. Thanks Officer Al, R.I.P.

P.S. I never raced again.

These reflections are so touching - the pain and loss never really go away. My parents purchased their house from Mr. and Mrs. Musterman in 1967, when I was five years old. And I very much remember being told that Mr. Musterman was killed in the line of duty. I was in school, but my parents and younger brother went to the graveside service. I know I wasn't there - but I can almost remember the array of dress-blue officers, the police cars and fire trucks that lined the roads around and into the cemetery, as my brother described it to me. I think for me it was an early lesson in the honor and respect and love that one can earn in his lifetime.

I now work in the St. Charles County Court House and still meet some, who after 40 years, still remember you. I remember when you worked in Webster Groves as a kid you coming by to visit my Mom and us and we were so excited to see you in your uniform and cruiser. It was so sad when you passed away. I remember going to your house in the summer and all of the cousins having a great time. I remember Grandma, never ever getting over your passing. Now she is with you also and I hope she is at peace. I am now faced everyday with seeing what officers go through and am sorry that I never got to know you as an adult. Rest in peace.

Dear Dad, I have been wanting to do this for awhile now. The anniversary of your death was a few days ago. so I feel compelled to write something now. You see, a very respected officer was killed recently. It made me cry. I always do that when someone who was so well liked and respected like you were is taken from us. Like you he left behind young children. I remember when you took Bruce, Bob, and I to campain for election to sheriff. That was so much fun. I always wanted to be a police officer, however it was not to be. It pains me to here the news when another fine law enforcement officer is killed. There is so much that i remember, the time I got a fish hook in my finger, you took mom and I to get it out, missed half day of fishing. It makes a person wonder how one act can change a person. Even though you were not my biological father, you were my DAD.You have been in my thoughts always. I know that you and Bob are up there knocking the crap out of the fish, you would have been proud of him,as we all were. To all of the rest of the Musterman family, that name will continue with my family, and Bruces. I am a MUSTERMAN. As the Marines say Semper fi. I will always remain faithful to that name. May God bless us all. The Mike Musterman Family. Seattle, Washington

I was but a small child and the memories are only a few but
my uncle Al A.k.a Uncle Goober was a much loved person . I do know as a kid he did make us feel very special , by giving us a ride in his cruiser . I know it was a different time back then , people may have been more trusting , possibly that had something to do with his untimely passing. My uncle has been gone for a long time but never forgotten. With love and gratitude your nephew Gregg Musterman
