God bless your family and may he keep you by his side. Though our Almighty Lord is selfish, and only takes the best first, he needs the company of his Angels and saints. Watch over us Murphy and tell the Lord to only claim those as great as you. Bless you......

I went to college with Kelly and remember her well. She was the RA in my dorm for 2 years. She was lively, pretty and had that great smile. She was in Criminal Justice classes with one of my good friends and I think I spoke with her nearly everyday. I was so sad to learn of her death and still think of her quite often. Rest in Peace Kelly.

I know many of you have asked how to get a hold of me. I have a myspace page, you can google my moms name and i think one of the items that pops up is a link directly to my myspace account. Thanks for all you support and for always thinking about my mom!!

I learned some time ago to stop asking questions regarding why some things happen.

I think that even Morgan agrees that for some reason You led me to her site and to contact Her. I love leaving silly messages on Her site and now She has included the circumstances surrounding that fateful day on Her site.

She knows that She has a Big Brother out West and it is obvious that God has blessed Her with great friends.

May You Rest - In - Peace.

Officer Murphy,

I don't know you but I have been working alongside your amazing daughter, Morgan for almost a year now. She is a wonderful person and I'm certain she got her looks from you. I will never forget you as I have chosen a career in Law Enforcement as well. I will always remain best friends with your lovely daughter no matter what.

You are never forgotten.

Some one once said "a friend is some one who you could tell anything to and they wouldn't be there to judge they would only be there to hear you."

For me that's the best and only description of Kelly there will ever be. The amount of years she's been gone doesn't seem to matter...the anniversary of her death never gets easier. I know in my heart she is in a better place...but it sure would have been nice to have my friend here for a little while longer.

Kelly, I remember growing up with you and our friendship in the 70's back in St. Joseph, MO. We spent lots of time as cheerleaders together and lots of hard work with our gymnastics. We really were the best and quite a team, weren't we! You met each day with grand enthusiam and a big sense of adventure. You were so talented and exceptionally bright and friendly, and your happy, endearing smile and those beautiful big dimples just lit up the room! I run across some of our old photos from time to time and think of you so often! You always said you wanted to be a Police Woman when you grew up. And that I only recently learned you did just that after moving to Bonner Springs myself a couple of years ago. You were so brave and a testiment to the courage and strength of all our Officers. God Bless you and your family!

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Officer Kelly I did not know you but I think of you every time I pass through Bonner. I understand you were a fine
officer and a beloved wife and mother. Thank you for your
service as a police officer. It will never be forgotten.

Because you paid the untimate sacrifice your name will be
written in the Hall of Honor and you shall be with St. Michael the Archangel as a defender of us in heaven.

Kelly, I remember your smile and laugh. I also remember your funeral. The field of uniforms stretched out for many yards at the cemetery in your honor. The 21-gun salute we gave you was our way of saying goodbye to a fallen friend.
Although I didn't know you well, I knew enough to know that we lost a good policewoman. May you sleep peacefully until our Creator call you to awake.Life still goes on for your husband,Randy, but he's never been the same since.
God bless and keep you.

Everyone who ever knew you loved you. You were adored by the community and the department. A sparkling, joyous, beautiful soul who touched so many lives in a positive way. I can remember so many of our talks. Your dreams were so simple. Family, marriage, home, and a sincere dedication to the shield you wore so honorably. Many of us have struggled with the "whys and whos" of this tragedy for years. The inevitable answer: God loaned us an angel, and needed her to come home. You made a difference, my friend. Every day of your life, and many days of mine.

I had this friend you see, who loved god, country, you and me. My friend went to work day or night the peace to keep, so you and I could sleep. She worked the holidays and weekends, away form family and friends. To keep this peace for you and me. Each day this friend put her life on the line to spare yours and mine. Then one day she paid the price, she gave her life. You've done well my firend, patrolling these earthly streets. Now it's time to walk on Heaven's beat.
The next time you see a Police Officer or two, remember they are one of God's Angels in Blue.

~~~To those I Love and Those Who Love Me~~~
When I am gone, release me, Let me go
I have so many things to see and do.
You mustn't tie yourself to me with tears,
Be happy that we had so many years.
I gave you my love, you can only guess
How much you gave to me in happiness.
I thank you for the love you each have shown,
But now it's time I traveled alone.
So grieve a while if indeed you must
Then let your grief be comforted by trust.
It's only for a while that we must part
So bless the memories within your heart,
I won't be far away, for life goes on
So if you need me, call and I will come
Though you can't see or touch me, I'll be near
And if you listen with your heart, you'll
Hear all of my love around you soft and clear
And when you must come this way alone,
I'll greet you with a smile and say,
"Welcome Home"
TO: The family; loved ones; friends and department members: A POLICE OFFICER’S PRAYER:--- O, gentle Lord ! Keep the day/night watch with me. As I begin my tour of duty, I ask your protection from all mental, physical and spiritual harm. Sustain me with the knowledge that I am doing your work, endeavoring to keep peace among your people. Help me to be just as I enforce the law without prejudice or favor to anyone. May I be courageous but not reckless in carrying out my duties. Let me respond to all calls with haste realizing that so many are dependent upon me for life and safety. Support me with your consoling power when I am tempted to think no one really cares and that I am taken for granted. Sustain in me the conviction that so many thousands do care and are grateful for my presence. Grant that I may be loyal to my partner and my fellow officers, and that I may back them up effectively when called upon for assistance. Lord, I ask that I may return safely, after my tour of duty, to my loved ones and those who love me. I pray that I may be a good and honorable police officer; and after my tour of duty is over here on earth, may I enjoy the peace and happiness of heaven that you have promised to those who serve you well. AMEN. *** REST IN PEACE *** Sent to you by the father of Master Officer J.D.Koeppen, Capital City Raleigh North Carolina; Trooper D.C.Koeppen, New Jersey State Police and Cadet Officer A.M.Koeppen, Wilmington North Carolina.
I was living in Kansas at the time of your death. I did not know you, but what happened to will stay with me forever. It sickened me someone could take the life of a young mother and wife for no reason. It inspired me to a career in Law enforcement. Thank you for your service. God Bless your family, my prayers have been with them always.
