His family name is a very old Irish name from East Clare, on the west coast of Ireland. The name is also connected with the Lamont (lawman) clan in Scotland.
He comes from a long line of lawmen, including the Chief of Police in Montreal, Quebec, who used to stand behind the bench of the Montreal Canadiens at every home game in the Forum.
He died on the Feast Day of Saint Francis, another great servant of the people and The Catholic Church. "May he always dwell in the kind and faithful shelter of the Holy Trinity" (John O'Donohue)
