Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Roland Peter Williamson

Agree totally with sarge Renfro. I too will never forget such a fine young man. Being on the job more than a decade I often ended up with stuff new hires needed. Brass. leather. All of it. We failed you son! Rip none like you for sure. Miss your smile. A country boy.

Pete, you will always be my hero. I miss you so much, my heart brakes when I think about you not getting to know your nephews. They would have loved you so much, not a day goes by without me thinking about you. My heart will always hold a special place for my hero, my brother.

I was only 6 when Roland Peter Williamson was shot and killed in the line of duty. I didn't understand the impact it would have on me when I heard "Pete" had "gone to heaven". But I do know. My family lived across the street from him, and needless to say, things just haven't been the same since. I could go on for sometime, but bottom line is, Pete lived an honorable life, and died in the same fashion. He was a great loss to our little community, a great loss to the Washington County Sheriff's Dept. and a great loss to mankind. But he left more greatness than he could ever have known. Marsha, James, and mom said it back then, and I'll say it again, Go Rest High On That Mountain, Pete. Even tho I know you're still right there looking out for your mother, sister, and nephews. God Bless

I remember the day very well when Pete was murdered. I was a brand new dispatcher at Washington County, having been there about 8 months. I passed all the responding officers on my way in to work that afternoon. I didn't know what they were running on until I arrived at work.

17 years later I still remember the sinking in my gut. I didn't know you well Pete, by I knew you well enough to know you were one of the good ones. Thanks for watching out over the rest of us as years have passed and careers have grown.

You're always missed.

Pete, over 16 years later and I still remember the day that you were failed by us.

I trained you in the short amount of time we knew each other and worked together to the best of my ability.

I warned the supervisor that the inmate was a threat to other officers due to his actions toward me after I had transported him alone during 2 previous suicide attempts.

You should have had a brother officer with you, but you did not.

I told you several times that you were too trusting and were more a firefighter than a police officer.

On that day you proved to me that you had heart and would fight to the end, so you proved you were and always will be a true cop.

I will think of you always deputy Pete Williamson.

The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

I am very familiar with the incident in which Deputy Williamson lost his life. I am a patrol deputy in a county just south of Washington county. The day before Deputy Williamson lost his life, I was shot while executing a search warrant. I was shot thru a window and struck on the upper left shoulder of my back. The good lord was watching over me as the bullett struck my vest which saved my life. I can remember hearing about the shooting in Washington county and felt the emotional pain again. I wish we never had to enter one name to this web site. I know it truly is needed to help us all remember the fallen, the respected and the loved. I want everyone to know that Ronald Peter Williamson gave the ultimate sacrifice to make our streets a better place to live. May god bless him, his family, my brothers and sisters in Law Enforcement and you for this wonderful site.
