Dear Great-grandfather,
Thank you for your service to the people of Pennsylvania and to the effort of wildlife conservation. Your family was so wronged by this death on so many levels, but with your strong widow at the helm, once the young family moved and settled in Harrisburg, life was tough, but it was well lived in your honor. You would be very proud of your children's lives because they all went on to be successful, long-lived, caring members of society with great families of their own.
You were approaching to give citation for hunting on Sunday when you were killed that November 7, 1915.
Your work was not finished here, you were taken too soon. Your time and contributions here will be remembered by many.

Julie Reed
great-granddaughter

I'll do my best Officer Joe to see that you are not forgotten. Although you were taken away from service before the Training Academy was established, your service and sacrifice will be commemorated with the presentation of a Class flag to the Commission on October 1, 2007 specifically honoring you, and others, who were " The First To Serve".

DAY IS DONE
GONE THE SUN,
FROM THE HILLS, FROM THE LAKE, FROM THE SKIES.
ALL IS WELL SAFELY REST,
GOD IS NIGH.

GO TO SLEEP, PEACEFUL SLEEP,
MAY THE SOLDIER, OR THE SAILOR, GOD KEEP.
ON THE LAND OR THE DEEP,
SAFE IN SLEEP.

LOVE, GOOD NIGHTM,
MUST THOU GO,
WHEN THE DAY, AND THE NIGHT NEED THEE SO?
ALL IS WELL, SPEEDETH ALL
TO THEIR REST.

FADES THE LIGHT;
AND AFAR
GOETH DAY, AND THE STARS SHINETH BRIGHT,
FARE THEE WELL; DAY IS GONE,
NIGHT IS ON.

THANKS AND PRAISE,
FOR OUR DAYS,
'NEATH THE SUN, 'NEATH THE STARS, 'NEATH THE SKY.
AS WE GO THIS WE KNOW,
GOD IS NIGH.

It is said that EVIL flourishes when good men do nothing.

To the family of this brave officer who gave all so that others might live, I extend my deepest sympathy and gratitude for your continued sacrifice.

To those of us who were left behind who still wear the badge, the mission continues... tomorrow is another Tour Of Duty... May God comfort you with the knowledge that you DO make a differance.
