I was just a cadet starting my career with the MPD. I have since retired and moved on the the Montgomery Co Sheriff's Office. I still remember hearing about you and Tony getting shot. Even though I did not know you, we are part of the same family and you will never be forgotten. Rest in Peace, Mary

Mary. God Bless your soul. A young black trailblazer. In 1982 that May, I was just getting out of high school in York Alabama and not really knowing what direction my life would take, but I knew that I wanted to do something that no one else had done. I moved to Elyria OH, and later became the first and only African American female officer. Mary, you are my Hero!!!!!

During this anniversary week of her death, we pause to honor the memory of our own, Detective Mary P. McCord and to again, solemnly acknowledge the ultimate sacrifice she paid on the streets of our city.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of her surviving family members, especially during this time of year.

Mary,

We went to the police academy together MPD Class 78-C. We were all young then. I got married, had a daughter and retired as have all the rest of our academy class. You were taken before you were able to do any of that. We miss you still, you were a sweet girl, friend and good police officer.

Think of you often.
