I never knew you Mr. John Lee Martin, but I have gotten to know your sister through Facebook which came about long after your death, and I know that you must have been a wonderful officer by the things she has written here. My father was shot and killed in Lee County VA too. He had been called over to the Cold Springs Market about some men who were hiding out in the woods around the store. They came up behind him and shot him with his own gun, when he got out of his vehicle to go into the store to see what the call was about. It was getting dark and they came up behind him and got his own gun from it's holster. He was killed several years before you but I wonder if you knew him. His name was Wilson McLain.

John, it is the day after your Birthday, and several wished you a Happy Birthday in Heaven. You are missed today as much as you were missed over 20 years ago when you left us so suddenly. I just hope and pray that our loss will give something to someone else, and that as they remember you people will be doing to others as you did . John you were, and will always be my hero. As I age I appreciate you, and what you stood for more and more. God Bless,

It's hard to believe that it has been over 20 years since I shared a patrol car with Sgt. Martin. He was a great friend, excellent, FTO, and one of the best officers you would ever find on the street. I am honored to have served with him.
