I am not sure why his name struck me as one to search for, but I felt compelled to learn more about Trooper Chong Soo Lin and pray for his family. Even 21 years later, his memory lives on.

I’m not even from Chicago and I don’t know this man. Just passing through and saw the memorial and decided to google info. In a Lyft by the way, not driving. Sad to see a life cut short. I have lost friends like your friends have lost you. Sad just thinking about it. Just wanted to thank you for your service and hope that you Rest In Peace and may your family know that there’s people out here who care about your passing. And that you are not forgotten.

I drove under your memorial overpass today and felt the intense need to seek you out. I was just a little kid when you passed, but I want to thank you for your service and protection. May you and your family have peace.

Trooper Lim's memorial on I-90 inspired me to learn more about his life. What I read here reminds me of how much we owe law enforcement officers in Northern Illinois.

My family and I are kept safe by these brave troopers. I hope all of us ordinary civilians can learn to be more humble and respectful of one another in honor of the service of these brave men and women.

In remembrance for the 20 year anniversary of this young trooper, I was also about his age when this happened and worked in the area where he lived at the time. I have never forgotten his story and I hope that his family has found some sense of peace through time. Thank you to all officers for your hard work and dedication to keeping the public safe. Your sacrifices are not in vain and will always be deeply appreciated.

It is hard to believe that you have been gone now twenty years. You have not been nor will you ever be forgotten my friend.
On the anniversary of your passing I fly a Police Memorial Flag with a ref draped with a mourning band on my flagpole, on the four corners of my house are four blue flood lamps which will be lighted tonight in your honor, as I do for all our fallen Brothers and Sisters.
I have Red and Blue strobe lights attached to my flagpole along with a speaker system, I begin with the tolling of the bells for each year of your life then I play the following bagpipe music: Mist Covered Mountains, The Flowers of The Forest, Balmoral, Retreat Set, Going Home, and Amazing Grace then the bells toll for each year you served afterwards Taps is played.
I do this twice beginning at 12 noon and again at 6:30pm so that everyone in my subdivision know of your Service and Sacrifice.
Chong, you are truly missed by all who had a chance to meet you my friend, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!!
