Reflections for Sheriff Sam C. Long

In honor of Sheriff Samuel Calvin Long, many of his progeny will be gathering on May 30th 2015 at 8:00AM CST at the old Jail and museum in Marietta OK, to celebrate the memory of his life. This used to be an annual gathering of my father Ronald Long and grandfather Clarence Long's generations. It is during the towns Frontier Days celebration. All are invited. Bring photo's, stories, mementos, etc... Timothy D. Long great grandson of Sheriff Long respectfully.

I have heard the story many times from my dad, George V Long, the oldest son of S C Long.

I'm doing research on my great grandfather Sam C Long. I doing so I came across this site. It really warm my heart to read such kind reflection. I never knew my great grandfather, but my dad was named after him. I spent many of summers at my grandfather's (Walter F Long) farm in Marietta. Even visited the jail where my grandparents live and worked in Marietta. I heard a lot of stories form my grandparents about SC Long.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 83rd anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

The tradition lives on in the family. Sheriff Long was a true Lawman and a servant of his comminity. He was a Commissioner for this County Prior to being elected Sheriff.

The heroic effort of Sheriff Long to stop the bank robbery tells of how he was dedicated to his community. This story was told to me by his youngest daughter (my grandmother) who was sixteen years old at the time of his death.

Thanks to all who serve with us.
