Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Sergeant Ippolito Gonzalez

Wow Lee! I should of written this a long time ago.

I was 14 when I met you in Malaga New Jersey,I was just a kid and you would watch over me cause I use to walk around town with friends and you know how bad it was for a girl to be doing that.
We dated a couple times when I was 18 and That I will never forget. You were my crush at 14 my love at 18. I wish I could of changed the night when you went to see the Good Lord. We miss you so much.

I will never forget you and I will always have that hole in my heart that only you could feel.
Your were a good cop and a great person.

May your memories always stay close to our hearts..

God bless you!!

Thank you for being there when I needed you most!

The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Lee, I will never forget day when I found out that my mother's cancer was terminal. I will always remember sitting in my car and crying uncontrolablly. You parked you patrol car long side of my car and was getting ready to go into store. But you did not go in, but stopped to talk to me. You listened to me that morning and I will never forget how you helped me. Then when she died you still listened to me. You were one of the best. I will always remember you and never forget the day when one of God's finest was taken.

Sarge, I watched the day your procession passed. I was lost and unfocused with my future. I grew up in Vineland and stood in the heat on the corner of Wheat Rd/NE Ave. The amount of officers that turned out to pay their respects showed me the individual you were and the brotherhood you were part of. I'm proud to say I joined that brotherhood on Sept. 4th, 2003 in Las Vegas. Thanks for the "push." RIP

Lee,
Thank you for making such a great impression on me that you made me want to be as great an officer as you were. every time I pass your memorial, I say a little prayer.

You are one of eleven lost in New Jersey that year. A year we would all like to forget. We will not, however, ever forget you or the ten other brother officers lost in 1995. You will always be in our hearts and minds! God Bless.
