Reflections for Patrolman Charles Franklin Lippincott

This was my Great Grandfather. This picture was hung in my grandmother Hayden(lippincott) home as long as I can remember. She talked about his always crying when referring to his death. She was only 5 years old when he was shot. I felt like I knew him through her words of what she remembered of him.

This was my great grandfather. 90 years after his death, myself and other members of my family met and had breakfast with the great grandson of my great grandfathers murderer. The killers great grandson was a police officer who after researching his family tree, discovered, to his disbelief, what his great grandfather had done. It was a time of reflection for both families, and a time to reflect on the sacrifices peace officers make each day.

This was my grandfather, whom I never met as he was killed when my mother(his daughter) was 5 years old. His wife, who was my Grandmother, never remarried as she could never love anyone else. My mother was depressed her entire life, having never really got over her Dad being shot. It was a tragic thing, relaated directly to alcohol abuse and affected so many. I know he was a good and honorable man as my Grandmom always told me the funeral in Asbury Park, of which we have pictures, was the largest ever to be held up to that time. He was also a Volunteer Fireman.

Charles Lippincott was my great grand father. I never knew him but I was named after him, which is a great honor. I have his picture displayed proudly in my home and everytime I look at his picture it reminds me of all the other officers and their families that have paid the ultimate sacrifice to serve and protect us.

Thank you

Charles Hayden
