Reflections for Investigator John D. McLaughlin

I attended a seminar where Richard Norcross shared your story. The story on this website does not compare to hearing your him speak. He painted a picture of that horrible day.It made me feel like I was there. It sounded like something you would see in a movie, not something that could actually happen. I know that you are watching over him as he shares his experience with others. You should be so proud of his courage to stand up and speak over and over, reliving this tragedy so he can help fellow officers that could be faced with the same. While I sit on the other side of the radio, I am still affected by all this. My department had a loss little over a year ago, Deputy Brandy Winfield. He was also a friend and very much missed. As he spoke about, things like this affect not just the officers but the entire department and community. He showed us the memorial set up for you and his brother John Norcross. It shows that you will never be forgotten. I was truly touched by this story and his courage to stay strong. He has not let tragedy take him down. You and John will live on forever through Richard.

Rest in Peace Officer McLaughlin.

INVESTIGATOR McLAUGHLIN, YOU REST IN PEACE MY FRIEND. I SALUTE YOU. YOU DID NOT LOSE YOUR LIFE, YOU GAVE IT IN SERVICE TO OTHERS. A TRUE HERO INDEED.

TODAY I READ IN THE PAPER THAT YOUR KILLER WAS NAMED INMATE OF THE MONTH IN THE PRISON WHERE THIS COP KILLER SERVES HIS/HER SENTENCE. I AM OUTRAGED. HOW OUR DEPT OF CORRECTIONS CAN HONOR AN INMATE, MUCH LESS A COP KILLER IS BEYOND ME.

IN HONOR OF ALL OFFICERS KILLED IN THE LINE OF DUTY BY THESE ANIMALS, I WILL ONE OF THE CITIZENS OF NEW JERSEY WHO WILL EXPRESS MY OUTRAGE TO THE DOC AND THE STATE.

I THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE HERO.

John, we never met however this horriffic event happened in our county and I was apart of it in prayers. I attended your services and am deeply saddened by your life being cut short. I still to this day think of you and the events that took place in Haddon Heights along with carrying your mass card in my duty hat. You will never be forgotten... You are a brave officer.

At the beginning of every shift I supervise, myself and the other officers on shift dedicate the day to the memory of a fallen officer.

Today, April 20, 2005 we dedicated the shift to the memory of Patrolman John Frank Norcross and Investigator John D. McLaughlin who died in the line of duty on this date ten years ago.

When one law enforcement officer falls, we all stumble for a while, but we will carry on.

Patrolman Norcross and Investigator McLaughlin's sacrifice will never be forgotten.

John McLaughlin was a very good man and father to his children. He was my superisor in the Air Force as a security policeman and a best friend. John taught me to be a very good security policeman in the military. He was a great friend of my family also. A day has not gone by that I haven't thought about and missed him. John McLaughlin was a great police officer and the best at his job. We love and miss you John. The Kohen's
