Thank you for remembering Mike. I was Mike's fiance at the time he was killed and check on this site pretty regularly. Mike was a great guy and would probably run with you if he was still with us (... at least he use to love to run! If he was still with us however... he might be a little bit old ,,,, but I doubt it!) He carried the torch for Carson during his last memorial relay run and ran every year in the Death Valley Relay (now Baker to Vegas) Thanks for doing this!

Randy, I always smile when I see a msg left by you....
Yes... Mike had an RX 7.... a rusty-copper color with cool plaid upolstery. I named it "Woodrow" because the licence plate was "WDW ###". I had Woodrow for several years ... wish I still did! Thank you for remembering him and posting on here.... and Happy New Year! Jane

Mike. Checking in. I drove passed 160 David the other night. I was up for 24 hours. I could have sworn I was a Mazda RX 7 pulling out. I looked again and didn't see it. I remember you drove one. I wonder.......

HI, Mike sorry it took a few days to write you. I didn't forget. The time goes by so fast. I have 22 years on the job. Seems like yesterday you took me on my first ride along at age 15. You pick me up at Carson Park. I remember our first call, first T-stop. Miss you buddy. I hope I get to meet J soon. And I know I will see you one day. I hope they have cigars in heaven. I do enjoy a good cigar. Keep an eye on us Mike. Randy

Happy Birthday Mike. You know what I was just thinking about? I was remembering all that happened around your birthday 1983..... the Death Valley Run - followed by your surprize birthday party. I remember getting up the morning after your murder and still seeing the remnants of your birthday.... such joy and such sorrow. You are forever loved and never forgotten. I miss you.

I know I was just talking about this below, but this is the "Baker to Vegas" run weekend, which was born on the heels of the Death Valley Relay. Never forgot you teaching me to shoot "Roscoe" out there in the desert, and we talked about situations in which you would never hesitate to use it... yes, protecting those you loved was up top, but I'll never forget you saying how you never wanted to live with a partners ghost so you would never hesitate to go after someone who shot a comrade. That was just weeks before you were living it... and you didn't hesitate, not knowing yet if Doug would survive his wounds or not... you were not going to live with a ghost and went after the animal who shot him. You were such and amazing man; you still are in our hearts. Also on a sad note, Daryl Gates just died... and it seeing his picture brings back the good memories of the friendly competition between he and Sherman Block with the relay, and then just weeks later seeing them both honoring you. They are both gone now. RIP

Yeah Randy, I was late too.... I was at a soccer tournament in
Las Vegas (yes - I am a "soccer mom" ) so I couldn't get online
on the 19th.... but never far from my mind. On the drive there
I was remember the old "Death Valley Relay" - just the 2 depts -
LAPD and LASO (now it is gigantic!)... Mike ran the relay just weeks
before he was killed....
And when I saw the turnoff for "Searchlight. NV", I remember we
went there and stayed with Bob & Annie Lee at her mom's place
before going to Havasu. How can it be 27 years?

Thank you so much for always remembering Mike. You're
the best!
