Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Lawrence "Mike" Lavieri

Jane,
Mike is on my list of heroes and I go back and read all their stories and reflections from time to time. I was doing that today and my eyes got teary when I saw what you wrote to me. My wife is also a jailer with the same agency and we wish to thank you. Mike could not have done what he loved without your love and support. Behind every good man is a great woman and the sacrifices you make should not be forgotten either. May The Lord continue to bless and comfort you ma'am. My family and I will always remember you and Mike in our prayers.

Mike, you were the ultimate Watch Deputy. As your dispatcher for about a year while I recovered from a T/C I really got to know and admire you. Thanks for taking care of me. Carson Station brings back a lot of memories and you were truly one of the good guys.

Mike was one of the Good Guys when Firestone Station was a
very, very busy place. His personal and professional abilities
were a positive attribute to us then when I was a patrol sergeant, I enjoyed working with him. God bless you Mike, I hope your on patrol in an area with golden streets!

Mike ~ 30 years ago today I thought my world had come to an end ~ I thought all that was good died with you ~ . I have been blessed beyond measure with a beautiful family and wonderful friends but there is never a day I don't think of you and wonder "what if ?" 30 years.... older than I was by 4 years.... I have missed you for longer than I had lived when I lost you!

Deputy Fernandez, thank you so much for your kind words and for the job you do every day and the sacrifices your family makes so you can do your job. God Bless you and keep you and your brothers and sisters in LE safe.

Carson station will be having a memorial briefing in memory of Deputy Lavieri on the patio at Carson station today at 10AM. Today is the 30 year anniversary of his death in the line of duty. His bravery and dedication to duty along with his ultimate sacrifice will be always be remembered by the men and women who proudly serve Carson station and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Sir,
I'm from Los Angeles and always read about the brave men and women of my hometown's law enforcement agencies. I was very moved by your story. Your bravery and dedication is truly inspiring. It's men like you that make this such an honorable profession. In 1983 I was only a 5 year old child who slept safely at night under the blanket of protection that you and your brave partner provided. Thank you. Although we never met and our lives never crossed paths, I want you to know that I am very proud of you. I will think of you in my prayers my brother. Honore Semper.

Wow! Whoever left the last reflection, thank you so much! Mike told me once he would never want to live with a partner's ghost, and you are so right... he was so brave! He was an incredible man and there is not a day, almost 30 years of days, that goes by that I don't miss him! Which is why I am here today.... Happy Birthday Mike! 30 years since your "39th Birthday Party"! What fun... what special friends! I love and miss you still.

Mike you are perhaps the bravest Deputy that I had the privilege to work with on the LASD.

After that individual shot Doug and seriously wounded him, you gave foot chase. You selflessly and relentlessly pursued him. He was not going to escape from you. Unfortunately, the gunfight did not end like we would have wanted and Doug had to medically retire as well.

But, you fought the good fight. No man has a bigger heart than you.

I recall helping you practice for an upcoming SGT exam by giving you mock oral interviews. Unfortunately, you were not able to see your effort bear fruit. You would have made an excellent Sgt, a leader of deputies.

Today was Thanksgiving and I was remembering how much you loved Turkey (and my mom's home-made pie!) Of course, Mom is no longer here.... thinking maybe you've seen her? I like to think you were there to see my Dad and you were both there to greet my mom. P.S.... I now make killer stuffing.... wish you were here to try it! Miss you always.

Just thinking about you.... as always. I can't believe it has been almost 30 years, and all it takes is a walk on the beach and knowing you were scattered in these waters... it will always be just yesterday ........

Mike, I am so sorry it took so long for me to visit you again. I think about you a lot. I drive by your place. I still live in the same place. I take my dog to the same place you took the cats too. I have 23 years on the job. I'll go for a few more. I was just telling a buudy about my first ride along way back in 1972. I wish I was with you that day when that POS shot you. I feel so terrible.... Mike you know not a day goes by I don't think of you. I am so sorry I haven't been on the page or didn't get recruit Barajas' email. I was out of State and a few other catastrophes... I am soo sad I miss the run. What tears there must of been from those who knew you and remember responding that fateful March 19th, 1983. Thank you to everyone... and yes, your dad would be proud... Miss you always

How nice to see that you are so remembered, so missed and so loved, The class 386 run in your honor was a wonderful tribute to your service. I pray for the solace of all those that love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever.

Mike,

Well first of all today is your birthday and may you be enjoying it in heaven along with your family and God! I am an instructor at the LASD Academy and also worked Carson Station. My class (386) dedicated their colors run to you yesterday and honored you in a very fantastic way. We ran from Carson station to the Gas Station on Santa fe av/Carson st. I just want to tell you that alot of Carson alumni came to the run, and alot of them worked with you, and even knew Jane. It was amazing to see that after 29 years they all still remember you, and mourn your loss! We also got a hold of your father's good friend, who showed up, and he said your father would have been proud of how we honored you yesterday!! My recruits are just starting their career and will now also always remember you in their hearts, you will not be forgotten.
