POLICE OFFICER
PHILA PA

February 14, 2008

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

I've looked at this page many, many times. I guess I never really wanted to leave a reflection because its hard to put words to a memory you do not want to believe. Aggie, (you never liked me calling you that) it seems like yesterday i was 20 something and hanging out with you and the guys from Liberty P.D. (Jimbo Brown, Ben Satterwhite, Cedric McDuffie, and Larry Davis?)at the Panther Stop. I always thought you were a helluva nice guy and looked forward to about 11p.m ish when you all showed up. I remember the day I heard the news. How could it have been true? I just saw you days before? I put on my class "A's" for your funeral and showed up by myself. I was amazed how many other people shared the same feeling for you. That huge church was filled to capacity. Now, Im 14 years older and out of the realm of emergency services, Im raising a daughter by myself, I have a hard time looking at police officers today in the same way I looked at you. The officers now dont seem to have the same homesty as you did. All in all, I truly believe you were the best Law Enforcement Officer I ever met. I only hope the people in Liberty County will take a small piece of you and go forward. You are truly missed.

It has been more than ten years, but I know that you are still in the thoughts and prayers of the people that knew you and loved you.

My Dad....WOW. I love him and I miss him. My heart is still broken to this day, but only because of the void left from his absence.

For the losers who killed the greatest man I have ever met, I hear it’s really hot where you’re going! Unless by God's grace you ask for forgiveness, and HE will forgive your sin. Which amazingly enough my family and I have forgiven you both because we our Christians and our hearts have healed.

Plus, I refuse to have the memory of the great Will Agy clouded by how he died by your hands.

I want to thank you Frank for telling it like it is. I hear you have written a story about that awful night, I would like to read it someday.

Thanks to everyone for the posts, maybe even you Leslie. (smile)

My heart broke a little when nothing was ever posted over the years, so Frank thanks for the recruiting. (smile)

Our life was turned upside down and all around when Dad was killed. My Dad made life fun and he always made everyone smile. He was funny and charming, yet such as "Bad Ass".
It took many years for smiles to return to our faces.

I have been married for 16 yrs and have four children, all boys ages 7, 5, 4 and 1.
My Dad would have had a blast with my kids with his ruff housing and stories. That's the part that hurts the worst for me and also that my sister grew up without him.

I have received a scholarship from Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.) due to my father's sacrifice. I am studying Psychology and I hope to finish up at SHSU by fall next year. My dad would laugh and say me being a Psychologist is like the blind leading the blind. (smile)
C.O.P.S. they have been wonderful to me and when I finish I will give back to them by helping counsel survivors of line of duty deaths. Also thanks to Barry Hill's Family for sponsoring one of my scholarships. I have been so blessed.

Last but not least, Leo your post made me sad. I know you blame yourself. Please do not blame yourself; it was my Dad’s time to be with the Lord.
Never once has my family said if only…. NEVER ONCE. Please forgive yourself because that is a burden you should not carry.

Thanks again to all my Dad’s loyal friends, and all our new friends for your kind words.

Love, Ali

Although I did not know you Will I respect you and appreciate the fact that you were willing to sacrifice your life in order to save others. I have learned many things about you from your fellow co-workers and they obviously loved and respected you. I wish that I would have started at the Sheriff's Department at an earlier date so that I would have been able to understand what it was like to work with you. B

Wil,
I did not know you, and I'm sure my dad did but after finishing the academy and learning about this website, I learned that my hometown had 3 fallen officers and out of respect I wanted to let you know how much appreciation goes to you. You obviously were a great guy, and took your job very seriously.
Rest in peace my brother in blue, we'll take it from here.

Will, I did not know you, but rest assured that you are regarded with honour. Thank you for being so dedicated to your work, and for being a mentor and a guide to those that looked up at you. Your death was truly senseless and I hope that the powers that be deliver justice unto your murderers. Rest in peace, brother.

I never had the opportunity to meet or work with Will Agy but the stories and legacy that this law enforcement deputy left behind is well known to all of us that work at the Liberty County Sheriff's Office. I came to work at the Liberty County Sheriff's Office almost 4 years ago and came to know Will's partner Frank Longoria well. The impact that Will's life and death had on his fellow officers will be with them forever. I wish that i could have had the opportunity to meet Will. I see his portrait every time I walk in the Sheriff's Office and think what a wonderful person and awesome deputy he must have been. There is never a time that goes by when his friend and partner Frank Longoria walks by Will's portrait that he does not stop to bid a farewell to his friend and partner. God Bless Will's friends and family.

Wil...it seems that you were the kind of man who could draw to you the young officer who wanted to excel. You left your mark on those who you taught and worked with and that is the best that can be said of any man. I too lost a firend such as you and I think of him often.I am pretty sure God has a place for good cops and I suspect that you are there.

just a funny comment from someone the other day brought about a deja vu feeling that involved a conversation with you. It was about a traffic stop in the riverbottom where the deputy had to stop and give direction to a guy in the backseat...........I am sure that some of your old friends will read this and know exactly what I am talking about and will share another laugh with you.

I learned of Will Agy's death through the media and at that time only as a resident of the county where Will served the people. I was saddened as any person would be at his untimely and violent death. In the days that followed, living a short distance from his home and passing by every day, I noted the work his fellow officers did around his home to help his widow out. I was impressed that his friends cared so much.

In 2002, I had the opportunity to join the agency as clerical staff and to become friends with Will's partner. Through his partner's devotion to the memory of Will Agy, I came to realize that Will had been very special, not only to his partner but to the department. I've seen Will's name on the Lost Lawman Memorial in Austin and it's a beautiful tribute to Will and others who have paid the ultimate price. I believe the fondness with which Will's partner and Will's family carry him in their hearts is the ultimate tribute.

As a citizen of Liberty County and a late arrival in the law enforcement family that is Liberty County Sheriff's Office, I would like to add to this memorial page my gratitude for the sacrifice Will Agy made for the benefit of his fellow man.

Will, brother Will I remember when Mike Day & I first met you when we brought his patrol car into the bodyshop you worked at to get checked out after we did the Evel Knievel over a cow! In the conversation we found out you wanted to get back into the job and we encouraged you to do so. With a little nudging we got you going again. You touched many many souls over the years since our first meeting. Sadly, you were stolen from us way too soon. Family, and your legion of friends will miss you always...

We met Mr. Agy years ago when he came to help us with an adoption matter with our girls. He was caring, patient and kind. He talked of his own children and related with us and the problems we were having. He gave us his personal phone and told us to call him anytime night or day. This was a man that cared about people, his job was not just a paycheck. We admired him and are proud to have known him.

Deputy Agy was a good man, I worked at the Dounut shop in Dayton & he would come in in the morning & get donuts to take home to his daughters & he would talk about how they loved waking up & having donuts before they went to school so he would try to come in as often as possiable to get them for them & how he would sit them on the dinning room table for them to see & have. He was a very sweet person & he was a family man you could tell by how proudly he talked about them. I was deeply saddend when I heard of his death & will NEVER forget you.

Deputy Agy, I did not know you, although I wish I had. To hear the kind words Frank, Mark, Chip and Chris and the many others have left in your memory, I feel as if I cheated out of the opportunity to know and work with you. I pray that your family has been taken care of and that your killers will answer for the pain that was brought about by their hands. Rest in peace my brother; I will meet you on the other side.

I am the daughter of a now deceased, retired DPS Trooper so I know a bit about the life of a police officer. My prayers go out to this family. I did not personally know Officer Agy, but I hope the low life scumbag cowards that did this, pays dearly. They will pay one way or the other, whether here on earth or standing before God, but it sure would be nice to see them pay here on earth. Just imagine them being in the care of Liberty County! To all officers that read this, thank you for doing what you do! May God Bless the Agy family
