Frank is still alive in the eyes of his family and friends, it is very important to make it home for his presentation of the flag every year. God bless his widow, his son and daughter and all his grand children and great grand children.

Has it really been twenty years?

Every time I drive past the memorial, I think of Deputy Trejo and his family.

Today on Palm Sunday as I drove into church, a group of men were gathered, prompting me to look this up.

Officer Trejo it's sad the way you were ambushed by Scully and his accomplice. I have respect for all sonoma county Sherriff deputies. This low life gets to live on his life which was of crime in a place where he is most comfortable. It's more than time to put this man asleep and to bad it can't be the way he took your life. Nothing can bring you back hope your family finds peace.

I think of Officer Trejo every time I drive by the spot he was killed. There is a memorial at the site across the Hwy 12 from Laguna Veterinary Hospital. I wonder if he saved many lives that night preventing the robbery the murderer admitted he was about to commit. I have a place in my heart for him. I hope his family is doing well at this time. God bless you sir.

Today is Nov. 1, 2013. Because of a recent tragedy in my town of Santa Rosa, California someone expressed in a letter to the editor of our local newspaper that officers killed in line of duty are usually forgotten by the public after the initial public outcry. I would like to say that I have never forgotten Officer Trejo. He probably saved the lives of all the people in the small bar the murderer was ready to rob. I use the vet hospital across the street from the memorial in his honor and often will pull in to that parking lot and say a prayer for his family. I hope you are all well.

The day you passed away I was a 24 yr old college student working as a nanny for a lawyer not far from where your life was taken. I was tired & did not want to go home so was out late driving. Even though dark I was headed down main road in front of building where you stopped truck. As I headed home and you were right in front of that building you smiled and held up your hand with a wave. I did not know that you were about to be with the Lord less than one or two minutes after I saw you. I somehow looped around and saw you vechile in parking lot and I was seeing the truck leaving the parking lot not knowing that truck was being driven by your killer and I did not know that you were laying there dead. I now live in Colorado. I never got my degree as I could not get through English 1A. I did go through ceremony as we thought I passed English and I thought I went through ceremony with your son? Sorry I write this as though speaking to the one who has passed but happens to be a rough time in life I have 4 kids all under age ten two are special needs. In 2000 I became disabled with brain surgery. Money the last few months been tight this month is been unbearable. It is life it hits you hard and you deal with it just this month has been beyond hard. I think of Deputy Trejo almost daily az I married a fire fighter who has many duties of law enforcement and all funerals for law enforcement make me think of Deputy Trejo az I attended his 17 years ago and will always remember his wife letting out a very loud gut wrenching sob at one point during the service I just so remember the moment. We had an officer Jensen get killed in Colorado Springs years ago and when he passed all the memorries of seeing you and having you smile and wave in the darkness so late at night moments before your death came flooding back. Seeing your face tonight is the first time I have seen your picture since your funeral. I ama normal well balanced person I just will always have a bit of Deputy Trejo with me. I hope the Trejo family is well.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Many years ago when I was a rookie cop I worked with Frank and he
taught me a lot about being
a law enforcement officer.
As the years have passed and
My career has taken me to a chief's position I frequently think back
with fondness and gratitude for
the mentorship that Frank provided.

On a recent visit to Washington
DC I visitied the Law Enforcement Memorial and took a pencil
etching of Frank's name.
This is now framed in my
office as a continual reminder,
not only of his friendship, but
his service and sacrafice which
inspires every day to be better
than I probably would have been otherwise.

I miss you brother...
