Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Police Officer David Brian Kubly

Although I was new to Wilshire Division & didn't know David, I wanted to share this piece of information. On the morning after David was shot, I arrived at the Command Post, which had been in operation since approx. midnight. There were a lot of cops from many LAPD divisions securing the perimeter & searching the area. Although the suspect had not been captured yet, some of the "brass" from other divisions wanted to break down the CP to get their officers back to their regular duties, and to send the officers that were on OT status, home. A strong willed Wilshire Lieutenant, Watch Commander Gary Richling told those that wanted to close down, that we were not closing down, and that a second search of the area would be conducted at daybreak. The second search was conducted and the suspect was captured in a rear yard approx. 100 yards from the CP; in a yard that had been searched earlier in the night. To this day, I know that had it not been for Lt. Richling's insistance on keeping the CP going, the suspect might never have been caught. Rest in peace David.

David, My brother, my inspriation, my hero. You are in my heart every day and in everything I do. You are the reason I joined LAPD to serve as you did, only I was able to retire, unlike you, giving your life to protect. You will never be forgotten, your nieces and nephews all know everything about you, even though they never had the privilage of knowning you. I love you David and the pain is not eased with time, it is only more time I have not been with you. love your lil sister, Karen

25 years ago today you gave the ultimate sacrifice. In our high school, we prayed the prayer of St. Francis.

"Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon. Where there is doubt, faith. Where there is despair, hope. Where there is darkness, light. Where there is sadness, joy.

Oh, Devine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console. To be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love; for it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life."

David, rest in peace in Eternal Life and know that we are keeping watch down here and that after 25 years (and beyond) you will not be forgotten.

It's been almost 25 years since the end of your watch. I hope whomever you left behind reads this message and realizes that you are not forgotten.
