Do not worry. You have said it well, and I, for one, am very proud of you.

Patrolman Keefe -

I have visited your memorial page a number of times. I've wanted to comment and yet not really known what to say. Because the man you were attempting to arrest at the corner of 26th and Wallace was my great-grandfather.

He died decades before my own birth, but I remember hearing stories of his exploits from my grandmother, who was born just days after you were killed.

I myself spent over a decade as a police officer, and my husband has been an officer for 20 years. I am sincerely sorry for the pain your family experienced at the hands of my ancestor and the saloon keeper, and hope that my own service in some way makes up for the loss of your life.

Officer Keefe,

I did not know you, or anything about you until I joined the Chicago Police Department a few years ago. While in the academy, each recruit in each class had one assignment, per Supt. Cline. Each of us was to choose a name that would be displayed on the Memorial Wall, research that officer, and write a report on our findings. Many of the recruits chose names familiar to them, whether a family member, a friend, or someone they knew where to start their research. I chose you. I don't really know why other than that most of my colleagues were selecting more recent personnel and I felt that you deserved the same attention and respect. Through my research, I discovered that you were shot at the same intersection that 100 years to the day of your end of watch, I was living. It would seem as though that would be our connection, at least beyond our callings. Every day that I pin my star, put on my duty belt, and go on patrol, I try to be the smartest, bravest, most fair Police Officer that I can. I know that you, the other fallen officers, and my friend Saul (recenly passed), watch over us all as we try to do what so few seem willing or able to do. Time erases many events and memories, but yours will remain.
