Reflections for Officer James Louis Guelff

Hey Jim,
Was a great turn out last night. Saw your brother, your son is so big now, Sherm, Joe, John and many new faces. The next time I see you I will be retired. Miss you my brother in arms. Till next year.

I was reading the other reflections and wanted to thank the other LEOs who have submitted reflections, be safe!

Bill Krull, I wanted to comment on your reflection, your reflection means more then you think. I know dispatchers have a rough time also and I know most of you truly care. I thank you for your services and I wish you the best. I know Jim would agree.

Jim, I just found this site and would have written something a long time ago had I knew it existed. I will always remember working with you on midnight shift at Ingleside Station and the great, mellow disposition you had, even after working all day as a carpenter. I still laugh when I recall the time we were chasing a baby skunk around Diamond Heights shopping center trying to pull a stuck yoplait cup off of his head. I was watch off the night you were taken from us and the shock of your death rattled me to the bone. I choose to remember happier times, your marriage to that beautiful bride and the many laughs we all shared at work. You will always be a hero in the S.F.P.D. Jim. You stopped a heavily armed gunman who was on some sick self appointed mission to cause pain and misery somewhere. See you again my friend when my time comes.

Hello again Jimbo!
Just spent 2 wonderful weeks with our Nanner! We talked about you of course! We miss you! But are both so proud of you! She told me of the wonderful memorial your fellow officers have for you every year & she invited me to come with her next year! I'm SO EXCITED! I hope I get to meet your kiddos! I really hope your 'in a better place' as they say, even though as much as we all love CA, I can't imagine a place much better than that! Love you! Judi

Hey Jim,
Was a good get together, saw retired guys I haven't seen in awhile, saw Lee, The Shermanator, Joe and other old Northern guys. It's been 18 years, seems so long ago but like yesterday in my mind. Miss you brother, see you now and then when I go by Pine and Franklin but for sure next year.

This probably won't mean much. I was a San Francisco Police Dispatcher working that night. Losing an officer is the worst nightmare there is. I've never been the same since. That was my last day in Communications before I retired on a medical -- non duty related. I was a San Francisco Police Dispatcher for 18 years, and those were the proudest years of my life. Although a civilian employee of the Police Department, I hope all sworn members know that our hearts and souls go out with you every single day. My father, Raymond Krutt was a San Francisco Police Officer, and my oldest son, Jarrod, works Hunters Point/Bayview as a Q-2. My name is William Krutt, ex-8238. I always tried to keep it light on-the-air. God Bless You All who put it on the line every day.

Jim,
Another of our brothers has been taken from us; Officer Kenyon Youngstrom, California Highway Patrol. EOW 09-05-2012. There has been so many Law Enforcement Officer deaths lately. Take care of him and I'll see you in November.

Dear Jimbo,
I was just looking for Nanner on facebook and came upon this page again. Reading all the messages left for you warm my heart, but also make me so sad. My sister and her family are visiting San Francisco this week, and I thank-you for making the streets a little safer because of your ultimate sacrifice. I still hope someday to meet your children, God Bless them.
Love you Jimbo,
Jude

Not a year goes by that I do not think of the heroism showed by officers on that night in November 1994. I was in my apartment and foolishly put my head out the window at the sound of gun shots. Running into danger, the officers from the street yelled at me to get inside. Gun shots rang out downstairs. I was only 24 at the time and a law student.

I hope that other officers read this and realize how many citizens out there appreciate and are so thankful for their service. Officer Guelff paid too high a price for his work, but on that day we were so lucky that he and his colleagues protected us.

Every year, I will remember him. I will speak of him to my children and try to emulate his bravery in my work and life.

I hope his family finds some comfort in all the fondness and respect with which he is remembered.

I was on duty that night with officers Constantine and Leung and we were in the third patrol car to arrive. We were in that gun fight for 25 minutes. I was able to be the first to retive Jims body. I found that he was still holding his empty duty weapon in one hand and a speed loader in the other. That night will always be on my mind and it still weighs heavy on my heart.
At the time, I bareley knew Jim, but i was aware that he was a fun loving good sprited guy. His incident forever changed police policy in san Francisco. Now we all carry the same duty weapon and same ammo. We fought to stop assault weapons, but the nra types fight back. We fought to stop nuts from being allowed to have possession of body armor, but the law was appealed. Jim was a hero and the incident left many of us with nightmares...

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 16th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

You were robbed of your life at such a young age. How devastated your family must have been. I hope to one day meet them at amNorCal Cops function. Rest In Peace

Hi Jim,

I thought you might be reading this someday soon. I talked to you that afternoon that you were killed. You always worked overtime. But that night you were getting off at a regular time. I wish to god you hadn't taken that last call for "man with a gun" who knew it would be a crazy guy with multiple weapons. I know you're watching over our kids. Please keep doing so. They need you. So do I. Thank you big hearted man with smiley face.:)
