Reflections for Officer Michael A. Osornio

Twelve years have passed since your end of watch and you have not been forgotten nor will that ever be the case for you are a true hero and heroes never die. Your loved ones will keep your memory alive as will the Blue Family. Continue to keep watch over your loved ones and those still out on patrol.

Mike,

I had the pleasure to attend the academy with you and because of the alphabetical proximity of our last names we sat side by side through one of the most challenging periods of both our lives. It's almost 15 years since we graduated and almost a dozen years since your tragic passing...and I think about you often. You made an impact on so many and you are missed! God bless you and your family and you'll stay in my thoughts and prayers until we meet up again.

I WAS GOING THROUGH THE BACKGROUNDS FOR THE SHERIFF'S DEPT WHEN I SAW THE NEWS OF YOUR TRAGIC PASSING. NOW TEN YEARS LATER I'M DOING MY BEST I CAN TO ARREST ALL THE DRUNK DRIVERS OUT THERE. IT'S SAD THAT THE PERSON WHO TOOK YOU FROM YOUR FAMILY ONLY GOT 6 YEARS. I WISH THE LAWS WERE MORE HARSH ON DUI'S THEN LIKE THEY ARE NOW. REST IN PEACE.

Mike, You were the closest person to being a father to me. you've known mom for years. Yet you were always in every thing we practically did. I'm 17 now, it's been 11 years and to think that we'd see eachother someday is a blessing. I'm following in your footsteps to become a cop. it's something i had always wanted to do. Just know that we all miss you. Especially us three kids. We Love you Mike.

To the family and friends of Officer Osornio and his fellow officers, and most especially to Officer Osornio:

On this the eleventh anniversary week of Officer Osornio's tragic death, I wanted to honor his memory. His bravery and dedication will never be forgotten. Reading the reflections left by his friends and peers show what a well-liked and well-respected man he was. How sad that his fine young man lost his life because of a drunk driver.

May his family continue to be comforted by the caring and support of their law enforcement family, and other police survivors.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the service Officer Osornio gave to his community and the citizens of California, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on October 31, 1994.

Mike, it's hard to believe that it will be eleven years since you were tragically taken from us by a drunk driver. Rich and I just wanted you to know that we are still out there getting them off the street and every time we do,we think of you. Keep watching over us and keeping us safe. We miss you buddy, but as long as we are still here, you will never be forgotten.

As the 10 year anniversary of your death approaches, I leave this reflection in your memory, with the hope that you are resting peacefully in God's loving arms. God bless the men and women serving on the thin blue line. You are all truly appreciated.

Mike, it's been almost 10 years since you were tragically taken away from us but you are still thought of often. I still remember us handling calls together as patrol officers and going to Denny's for lunch at 2 AM on the graveyard shift. We collected those Denny's baseball cards. I still have the set you made for me when I went on vacation. I remember October 31st, 1994 like it was yesterday. When I responded to the scene of the incident it was the most helpless feeling in the world. We had just talked less then 30 minutes prior in briefing. Mike, you were a true friend who was always willing to lend a hand to others on or off duty. It's officers like you that raise the bar for the rest of us. Rest in peace Mike. You will never be forgotten.

I am grateful for the service of Officer Osornio. Police officers are our only protection from drunk drivers, and it truly is a shame when they are killed by one. My goal is to become a member of the DUI task force when I become an officer. Officer Osornio and other fallen officers will be a reminder to me to do an outstanding job in their memory. I hope his family is doing well after these years.
