HELLO CHUCK, THINKING OF YA, JEFF

My name is Bill Heim. I retired in 1994 from Detective Headquarters, just a couple months before his death. I met chuck when I noticed his uniform name plate. I joked with him about not embarrassing my legacy or the Heim reputation. When he left I bragged to the other detectives, “ now that is going to be a good cop”. I think about Chuck and his family often and am convinced meeting him that night was no coincidence. My fathers name was Chuck ! RIP Officer Heim!

Today the men and women of Hollywood Division went to the motel of your last call. We reflected on your sacrifice and told the story of your life. In doing so, we passed down your legacy. The legacy of the badge, service to the community, and ultimately putting the community's needs before your own. Our hope is that your family is doing well and our appreciation that they shared such a man with our department.

Know that his brothers and sisters of the LAPD Hollywood Division have not forgotten and never will. RIP.

Me and Charlie still miss you. Charlie grew up to be a man you would be proud of. Hit a few bumps along the way, bumps that would not have been there if you had still been in his life. I am glad that I still see so much of you in him. Charlie has no idea that many of his ways were your ways. I am thankful that Because of Charlie, You are still in our lives everyday. You have been gone so long, so many years... Our son is now older then you were when you were taken from all of us. Wow!!! But I know your up there with our daughter Melissa. Still really miss you.

I cant believe its been 21 years. I was just thinking about the last time we hung out. I was 14 years old.We were eating some Carl's Jr in your truck and I was talking about me wanting to be a firefighter when I'm older. You told me to stay out of trouble, finish high school, and pursue my dream. Im 36 years old and I'm proud to say that I'm a firefighter in southern California. Thank you for inspiring me and making those trips from Diamond Bar to Canyon Country, to simply hang out. Miss you and know youre in a happy place with the rest. Love you uncle Chuck.

Chuck Heim was one of those Officers that no one could forget. He was always looking for the bad guys and wanted to be there when there was trouble. Chuck came to Hollywood from the Mounted Unit at Metro Division and immediately made friends with everyone. On the night that he was shot he took that extra step and went after a narcotics suspect that was hiding in a motel. Chuck was killed and his partner wounded. The suspect was later killed by SWAT. Chuck gave his life so that the citizens of Los Angeles could be safe, that is his legacy. On October 9, 2015, there will be a memorial service in Hollywood to honor Chuck and the 7 other Officers from Hollywood Division killed in the line of duty. May His name be eternal
