"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Twelve years have passed since your tour of duty ended but you have not been forgotten by those that love you nor will the Blue Family ever forget you as you are a true hero and heroes never die. Keep watch over your loved ones and those officers still out on patrol. You have not been forgotten.

Sgt. Simenson, you and I started in law enforcement the same year but for the Grace of God and my brothers and sisters above looking out for me I made it through. I attended your funeral and can still remember the sight of the hundreds of officers and departments that came to pay honor to a fallen hero and brother. To your family I offer my prayers and to you I say you will forever be remembered.9/28/06

Tim, although you do not know me, I met your father at the services in Springfield, Il in 1995. I was there for a fallen Detective from my office. It was then that I found out about your tragic death. I am deeply saddened and even though it has been 11 years, it still hurts remembering these events. I wish the best for the loved ones you left behind.

Sgt. Simenson,
On today, the 11th anniversary of your murder, I would like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for the citizens of Crest Hill. It's too bad, that ex-Governor Ryan could not live up to his obligations to the citizens of the state of Illinois.

To the family and friends of Sgt. Timothy Alan Simenson and fellow officers in the Crest Hill Police Dept., and most especially to Sgt. Simenson:

Today has been eleven years since the brutal murder of Sgt. Simonsen. His valor and bravery will never be forgotten. His memory is being honored and revered today.

I was sorry to see that the Governor of Illinois acted in such a manner that he let off death row a despicable criminal who took the life of this honorable officer and public servant.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the many years of distinquished service Sgt. Simenson gave to his community and the citizens of Illinois, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on September 28, 1994.

More than a decade later I remember Tim as an officer who, after many years on the job, still cared. He helped me personally more than once. May his family and friends find consolation knowing he is not forgotten.

I was working the night you were called home to the lord and even thought it's been over a decade I still think of that night. I hope that you have been resting in peace all these years, knowing that you have done your job and did it well. God Bless you.

Sergeant Tim: It is still hard to believe that you are gone. Although I left Crest Hill PD a few months before your death, I still feel your loss and think of you often. You were a talented police officer and great supervisor. I enjoyed the night shift under your command. Even though I already had several years on, I learned a great deal from you. You are greatly missed by all who knew you. I know you are in a better place. My love and respect to Sue and the kids. Sleep well, my friend.

Sgt.

I had the unfortunate experience of working shift the day you gave the ultimate sacrifice. I also remember the day you were laid to rest. The police and fire service is the biggest "second" family any person could have and the turn out for your final place of rest was simply overwhelming. Life does proceed forward and please know that your service to your community and the residents of Will County will never be forgotten.
Rest in peace and may you watch over all of our public safety families.

It's 2003 and I hope your family knows we haven't forgotten. Never will. Rest easy, brother.

Sgt. Simenson,
This was a very important day of my life. I started the Police Academy this date. I can still remeber what the Cadre said, "this job will be the hardest but most rewarding job you will ever have". It is 2003 and I would have to agree with him. When you laid down to rest was when I stepped up to the plate. Although I have never met you I know you, keep'em safe up there.
