Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Trooper Simmie L. Jeffries

Today is the 39th anniversary of your death. As time continues to pass, it becomes more difficult to reflect on the day you left this world, especially with the anniversary of your mother's death being two days before yours. We observed her grave nearby after we left flowers at yours. It has been 5 years since her passing and her absence is felt just like yours. We love, miss, and honor you both.

Happy Father's Day!

I came here to write my yearly Father's day message and I was pleasantly surprised to see someone left a wonderful reflection about hoping to be an impactful father like you. It is touching to see other people recognizing your service decades later. Despite being gone, you are still inspiring people. I Love you always!

I am not familiar with you or your family. I live in Athens and have seen the bridge named after you, on millions of occasions. Since I have gotten older and prefer researching and learning more than I do social media, I decided to look you up a little over two years ago. I have visited your page plenty of times and see the sweet things your daughter says to you. It's amazing how much of an impact you had on her in a short time. I have a daughter and I hope to make her proud of me, just like your daughter is of you. You seem like a great man, all around. Thank you sir, for your bravery and service here in athens, and may your legacy live long. Hopefully your story will get out, one day, to the ones that are not familiar with it. RIH

Today is the 38th anniversary of your death, which is the day after my 40th birthday. The time has flown by but it is not fast enough to keep me from remembering you! Usually, I reflect upon your overall service as a State Trooper, but today I want to specifically highlight one of your favorite events of service, the Special Olympics.

Currently, I am working on a Master's degree in Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling, which involves holistically helping disabled people improve their lives. I hope to experience the joy of watching disabled clients accomplish their goals despite their physical/mental limitations like you did during your service at the Special Olympics.

I always thought it was wonderful that you liked watching disabled children and adults go beyond their physical limitations with accommodations. I plan to continue honoring your legacy by positively impacting people living with disabilities. Forever loving and missing you!

Love,
Jamillah D. Stewart

Today you would have been 60 years old. How I wish you were here to celebrate with us. Sadly, I cannot joke with you about getting old, but I can leave you this message of remembrance for your special day. I love and miss you always!

Today is Peace Officers' Memorial day for fallen police officers and I could not let this day pass without leaving reflection for you. It is true that your death was a tremendous loss to our family and your department, but the community you served was also negatively impacted.

As more police officers have fallen in the line of duty recently, I truly empathize with their families and communities as they grieve. Your service along with so many other fallen officers was a collective benefit in maintaining peace and safety nationwide. Thank you Dad and every fallen officer for protecting and serving until the end of your watch.

Today is the 37th anniversary of your death and I am still remembering you as always. My mother and I put flowers on your grave recently. As mentioned in a previous post, I gave a presentation about Alabama State Troopers and dedicated it to you. My professor and classmates were moved by your heroism. My professor asked about the location of your bridge.

I have written at least two papers detailing how your sense of justice, duty, and bravery has influenced my ethics and conduct towards others. Whether through speaking or writing, I have been happy and honored to share your story with other people. I am forever grateful to be your daughter. I love and miss you!

Happy Father's day!

As your proud daughter I am continuing to honor your memory. My colleagues are going to learn about you soon through my presentation about the promotion of Black State Troopers in Alabama. I am also writing an ethics manuscript about how you influenced me to be upstanding person that helps others in their time of need. Thank you for continuing to inspire me.

Love,
Jamillah

It's the 36th anniversary of your death and once again I'm here to reflect on the ever-present impact of your loss. Unfortunately, we've experienced national and global devastation, protests, riots, and disparagement of all law enforcement.

In spite of all the world's chaos and negative generalizations of law enforcement, I remain proud to have a State Trooper for a father. There are still Honorable and fair minded officers like you were, who serve and protect all citizens. Officers of your caliber deserve to be celebrated and I find comfort in these challenging times when I think about your courageous sense of duty. We love and miss as always.

Happy Birthday Dad! I couldn't let this day go by without expressing how grateful I am that you were born. Not only did you complete your mother's family as the last born, but you gave me wonderful family and friends with lasting memories of your love, sense of humor, and generosity. You're always loved and missed.

Happy Father's Day! Today I'm reflecting on how blessed I am to have had a father like you. Although our time was short, I'm grateful to know that you loved me and wanted the best for me. I recognize there's many people in the world who aren't fortunate enough to have a brave and loving father like you, so I don't take it for granted. I remain happy and proud to be your daughter.

Today is the 35th anniversary of your death. Remembering the day we lost you is always a deeply somber and painful experience, but this time is more saddening than usual because you have been gone for so long. Many years have passed since your absence and our family has changed, but the love and respect for you remains ever present. You're still the best and most courageous father I could have ever asked for.

Love your daughter,
Jamillah D. Stewart

To the best brother in the whole world. I miss you more than words could say. I know Mommy is with you now and you guys had an amazing reunion with the rest of the family. You taught me so much during the short time you were here. Everything I am is because of you and Mommy. Because of you and our Almighty God, I will endure as we prepare to lay Mommy to rest on Saturday. I take comfort in knowing that I will see you all again one day. And that you are sitting with our Father.

I love you with all of my heart. I still remember answering the door that dreadful Friday night when your fellow Troopers made the notification. I had no idea why they were there but Mommy knew. You had prepared her. Just as you were always looking out for others. Enjoy Mommy, we sure have for all these years and I trust I’ve made you proud of the woman I am.

The anniversary of your death is always a sad day no matter how many years pass, but this one is really heartbreaking due to the recent death of your mother. She endured so much sadness from losing you and four of your siblings, but she always loved and honored the memories of you all. We lost her two days before your anniversary and from this day forward we will remember how you and Edna Jeffries positively impacted our family.

Love,

I never knew Officer Simmie Jeffries but I live near that area and I have always wondered who he was. I know he can't see this but I want to thank him for all his service.
